Portrait of Agnez Mo Singing 'Ibu Pertiwi' and 'Indonesia Pusaka' from Toronto

In the midst of the situation where the Indonesian people are currently fighting for justice, various support continues to come from many circles, including from public figures. One of them is Agnez Mo, who never forgets her homeland even while pursuing her career abroad. Through a reel post on Instagram on Wednesday (3/9/2025), Agnez shared a touching message as well as her form of solidarity for the Indonesian people.

"Sorry if I can only do this much. Right now I am in Toronto, trying to focus on achieving success (which ultimately is also for the name of my country). Amidst the busy shooting (and also undergoing physiotherapy due to a minor injury), I cannot turn a blind eye to what is happening in Indonesia," wrote Agnez in her caption.

Agnez claims to have only one day amidst her busy schedule to record two Indonesian national songs, namely Ibu Pertiwi and Indonesia Pusaka, with simple equipment.

"Sorry if the result may not be perfect, but in the midst of my schedule, I finally found just one day to sing two of the most beloved Indonesian national songs and record them with a simple camera. I hope this can bring a little peace to my fellow countrymen, a reminder that anarchy is not the answer, but self-introspection," she continued.

"Even though all of this is happening, my hope for Indonesia remains strong. I always strive to bring and honor Indonesia's name on the world stage (yes... at my own expense, my own money, and my own resources). Even when some try to exploit my name for their own agenda, my conviction has never wavered. My belief has always been that Indonesia will rise."

Not only that, Agnez also reminds the public not to be easily provoked or manipulated.

"Don't let yourselves be provoked. Don't let yourselves be manipulated. We are wiser. We are stronger. We are no longer Indonesia of 1998. Citizens protect citizens. Because in the end, we are one nation, bound by one truth: Bhinneka Tunggal Ika," she wrote meaningfully.

As an addition for her followers from abroad, Agnez also explained the background of the song she performed. The song Ibu Pertiwi (around 1908) is an adaptation of the Christian hymn What a Friend We Have in Jesus written by Joseph M. Scriven (1855) with a melody by Charles C. Converse (1868), and then beautifully lyricized by Kamsidi Samsuddin in 1908. Meanwhile, Indonesia Pusaka is a legendary work by Ismail Marzuki.

Through that post, Agnez Mo once again shows that she is not only an international musician but also someone who cares about her homeland.
