Shocking facts were revealed in the divorce hearing of Baim Wong and Paula Verhoeven at the South Jakarta Religious Court. The panel of judges stated that Paula was proven to have committed adultery with a man with the initials NS, as revealed in a lengthy evidentiary process.
The spokesperson for the South Jakarta Religious Court, Suryana, disclosed that the fact of the adultery became one of the bases for the panel of judges in delivering the decision to the respondent.
"Regarding the presence of a third party in the trial, the panel of judges stated that it was proven," said Suryana when met at the South Jakarta Religious Court on Wednesday (16/4/2025).
According to Suryana, the proven presence of another man in their household led to Paula being declared an unfaithful wife who has neglected her household duties.
"With the proof of the existence of a third party in their household, the respondent was declared an unfaithful wife to her husband, neglecting her duties and ultimately failing to uphold her honor as a wife," Suryana continued.
In fact, he stated that such behavior is considered a betrayal of the sacred relationship between husband and wife, which in Islamic law is referred to as an unfaithful wife (nusyuz)."If we put it in this language, it betrays the sacred relationship between husband and wife. Those are the proven facts in the trial," he emphasized.
Due to that status, Paula lost her right to receive iddah and madya maintenance that she originally claimed in her counterclaim. Only one demand was granted, which is mut'ah amounting to Rp1 billion.
Suryana also stated that under the provisions of the Compilation of Islamic Law, a wife who is declared nusyuz is indeed not entitled to maintenance during the iddah period or madya maintenance after separation.
Nevertheless, the court still granted Paula the right to mut'ah as a final appreciation from her husband to the divorced wife.This decision has been uploaded through the e-court system and will officially take effect after obtaining permanent legal force.
