Sad news comes from the Indonesian music world. Legendary musician Darmawan Kusumawardhana Hardjakusumah, better known as Acil Bimbo, passed away at the age of 82 on Monday (1/9) night at Hasan Sadikin Hospital in Bandung.

Acil was born in Bandung on August 20, 1943, as the second child of seven siblings. He was the son of Raden Dajat Hadjakusumah and Uken Kenran, who were quite influential in West Java.

In his personal life, Acil married Ernawati. From this marriage, he was blessed with four children and several grandchildren, including two of them, Hasyakyla Utami and Adhisty Zara, who are known to the public as young artists.

The year 1966 marked the beginning of Acil's music journey when he, along with his siblings Sam and Jaka, and Iin Parlina, formed the music group Bimbo. The Bimbo group then produced popular songs that have lasted across generations. Some of them include Ada Anak Bertanya pada Bapaknya, Tuhan, Sajadah Panjang, Rindu Rosul, and Melati dari Jayagiri.

Despite being busy with music, Acil has never left the world of education. He graduated from the Faculty of Law at Padjadjaran University in 1974. Two decades later, he returned to continue his studies and successfully obtained a degree in Notary Education from Padjadjaran University in 1994.

In addition to being known as a musician, Acil also has a strong interest in Sundanese culture. He once expressed that the Sundanese people still rely on oral traditions and are less likely to document their cultural heritage in written form. In a cultural discussion in 2009, he even emphasized the importance of maintaining the values of mutual cooperation and the friendly nature that characterize the Sundanese community.

Acil's concern for the environment has been evident for a long time. He once served as the Chairman of the Bandung Spirit NGO in 2000, an organization focused on social and environmental issues. In 2015, he was also involved in the 60th Asia Africa Conference, discussing the issue of water privatization in Asia. Additionally, he is known for being vocal in criticizing deforestation in the Tangkuban Parahu area and emphasizing the importance of local wisdom in every development.

Acil Bimbo passed away on September 1, 2025, at 10:22 PM WIB at Hasan Sadikin Hospital in Bandung.
