Public Prosecutor Rejects All Exceptions Read by Ammar Zoni's Legal Counsel, Here's the Reason

Kapanlagi.com - The trial of drug abuse with the defendant Ammar Zoni was held again at the West Jakarta District Court on Wednesday afternoon (22/5/2024). The agenda of the trial was to hear the response to the exception from the Public Prosecutor.

As known, on Monday (20/5/2024) Jon Mathias, as Ammar's legal counsel, read the exception in the form of objections if the trial process was conducted in the West Jakarta Court. Because it is not in accordance with the location of the arrest, which is in Tangerang.

1. West Jakarta Court Has the Right to Adjudicate

In response to the objections of Ammar Zoni's legal counsel, the Public Prosecutor's office feels that the situation can be an exception. Especially considering where the defendant is detained and the residence of some witnesses who are in the West Jakarta area.

"Regarding two things, namely witnesses whose place of residence is closer and the detention of the defendant by the Panel of Judges who have jurisdiction in the West Jakarta area. Therefore, based on Article 84 Paragraph 2 of the Criminal Procedure Code, we believe that the West Jakarta District Court has the authority to adjudicate this case," said the Public Prosecutor as quoted by KapanLagi.com during the trial.

2. Rejecting All Ammar Zoni's Exceptions

Therefore, the Public Prosecutor rejects all exceptions read by Ammar Zoni's legal counsel. The reason given has exceeded the limit of exceptions.

"The limit of exceptions is stated in Article 156 Paragraph 1 of the Criminal Procedure Code. We, the Public Prosecutors, believe that the authority has exceeded the limit of exceptions. Therefore, we request the Panel of Judges to issue an interim decision rejecting all exceptions submitted by the legal advisor," said the Public Prosecutor firmly.
