Reprimanded by KPI for Dressing Like a Woman and Decided to Quit Television, Ivan Gunawan: It's a Fashion Trend

Kapanlagi.com - Presenter Ivan Gunawan speaks out about the reprimand from the Indonesian Broadcasting Commission (KPI) that led to his decision to leave the Brownis program on a private television station. According to Ivan, it was not him who suddenly took the initiative to wear the outfit that eventually sparked the controversy.

"At that time, I wore that outfit because it followed the theme of the day, which was Back to the 60s," Ivan said when met at Hotel Borobudur, Jakarta, Wednesday (24/1/2024).

Furthermore, the outfit worn by Ivan at that time had been carefully considered according to research results. Moreover, Ivan has been involved in the fashion world for a long time, so he doesn't want to dress carelessly.

"I have been a judge and discussed fashion for 20 years. I know about fashion. So, what I wear is based on research. What happened in the 60s?" Ivan said.

"That's why I said in my post, if it's about 60s fashion trends, not what happened in the 60s in Indonesia. Maybe at that time, Indonesia didn't understand that there was such a trend," Ivan continued.

1. Not Deviant

Because he didn't want his fashion style to be misinterpreted as something deviant, Ivan decided to quit the program he had been hosting for about 5 years.

"So yeah, I decided to just focus on fashion. My real industry is fashion. I have grown for 20 years because of the fashion industry," said Ivan.

2. KPI is Too Cornering

Moreover, the man who is familiarly called Igun feels that KPI is too cornering him because it never offers room to provide an explanation for the fashion style displayed.

"KPI's reprimand was sent without calling me or wanting to listen to my explanation. So for me, maybe now is not the time for the fashion industry to enter TV, it doesn't seem relatable anymore," Ivan explained.

"In my opinion, that reprimand also undermines and kills my character," he concluded.

3. Ivan Gunawan Reprimanded by KPI

As a reminder, some time ago KPI gave a reprimand to the Brownis Trans TV program which aired on October 30, 2023. They found violations in the broadcast through the appearance shown by Ivan Gunawan.

Tulus Santoso, Coordinator of the Content Supervision Division of KPI Pusat, explained that the reprimand conveyed to the Brownis Trans TV program is not the first and has been reminded too often.

Previously, KPI had issued a circular regarding the display of practices, behavior, and promotion of men with feminine appearances.
