Revealed! 'PENGABDI SETAN 2' Apparently Completed Filming Since 2020

Kapanlagi.com - The most anticipated supernatural horror film, PENGABDI SETAN 2: COMMUNION, released its official trailer on Thursday (16/6). In the two-minute and four-second trailer, Joko Anwar as the director showed a compilation of glimpses of the terror that the audience can expect.

"This trailer tries to represent the film so that it doesn't deviate. From the beginning, we wanted the trailer to not be something that deceives, so that the audience's expectations will be in line with what is shown in the trailer," said Joko Anwar when met at Epicentrum XXI, Rasuna Said area, South Jakarta.

1. Keeping Which Ones are CGI a Secret

In the official trailer for PENGABDI SETAN 2: COMMUNION, Joko Anwar showed the setting of Jakarta in 1985. However, he intentionally recreated how Jakarta was at that time with the help of CGI.

"What is seen in the trailer is a combination of real locations, but there are also buildings and properties that we used CGI for. But because it is so seamless which ones are CGI and which ones are real, we chose not to reveal which ones are CGI and which ones are real. This film has 400 CGI shots that were worked on extensively, and people may not be able to tell the difference," said the Medan-born man.

2. Filming Since 2020

PENGABDI SETAN 2: COMMUNION is released five years after the first film successfully gathered 4.2 million viewers during its circulation. Interestingly, although it will only be shown on August 4th, the filming process has been done since 2020.

"The film was shot in 2020, and post-production took almost two years. The distance from the first film is quite long, if there was no pandemic, we still planned not to release it directly after the first film was completed. Because we want to prepare a planned sequel that can satisfy Indonesian moviegoers," explained the bespectacled man.

3. First and Second Film Marathon

Due to the long distance between the first and second films, Joko Anwar thought of releasing these two films so that they could be watched in a marathon. But even that is still a plan and will not be applied to all cinemas.

"We have a plan, maybe there will be a double bill screening of the first and second films. We are working on it, hopefully it can happen," he hoped.
