Ridwan Kamil's attorney, Wenda Aluwi, stated that her client is aware of the situation and has chosen to be open and take moral responsibility.
"Mr. Ridwan Kamil would like to apologize to Mrs. Atalia, the extended family, and the public for what has happened," said Wenda at a press conference in the Cikini area, Central Jakarta, on Wednesday (7/1).
According to Wenda, Ridwan Kamil accepted the divorce decree despite having tried to maintain his marriage. He believes that the decision was made after careful consideration, as communication between both parties no longer found common ground.
"Regarding this divorce lawsuit, Mr. Ridwan Kamil accepts it and prays for Mrs. Atalia, as well as praying for himself to find the best outcome," Wenda continued.
Wenda also mentioned that Ridwan Kamil did not expect that the marriage which has lasted for 29 years would end in court. However, he tries to act wisely as the head of the family. "Mr. Ridwan Kamil also didn't expect that after 29 years of marriage, it would have to end in divorce," he said.
This stance is reinforced by the statement of another legal representative, Oya Abdul Malik, who believes that the divorce process is proceeding amicably. Until now, communication between Ridwan Kamil and Atalia Praratya is still going well. "This divorce is also amicable, and the communication remains good to this day," said Oya.
Through this message, Ridwan Kamil also hopes that the public will respect his family's personal space. He wishes that public attention is no longer directed towards speculation, but rather towards the recovery process of each party.
