Roy Marten's First Encounter with Rima Melati: She Was Already a Star While I Was Still a Struggling Actor, But She Accepted Me

"For me, Rima was there when I came from the village to Jakarta to pursue a career in acting but had no idea how to do it. And I participated in a fashion show at that time," said Roy Marten when met at Rumah Duka Sentosa, RSPAD, Central Jakarta, on Friday (24/6).

"When I joined the tank unit and became Rima Melati's subordinate, her mother, Non, and IMA (Indonesia Model Agency) were already big stars. I was still a struggling actor, but she accepted us as we were, without any barriers or arrogance," said Roy Marten.

From Rima Melati, Roy Marten learned that if he became a big star, he should not be arrogant and should not distance himself from others, especially those who are new to the art world.

"From her, I learned that Rima is an inspiration for everyone," said Roy Marten.

2. They Met When She Was Still Healthy

Roy Marten himself admitted that the last time he met Rima Melati, she was still in good health. At that time, the Covid-19 pandemic had not yet spread in Indonesia.

"(The first time I found out Rima Melati was sick) it was announced in groups, it was announced that Rima was sick, getting better, then went into the ICU, we all prayed, she came out again," said Roy Marten.

"Finally, she returned to a place where there is no sadness and pain. She has been placed in peace," concluded Roy Marten.

3. Declining Health Condition

Rima Melati's son, Aditya Tumbuan, said that his mother had been experiencing a decline in health for a long time. Even before she passed away, the AKU BENCI KAMU movie player had undergone two treatments at different hospitals.

"The first time she was admitted, Rima was infected from a wound on her back, her lower back. The infection caused her to have a high fever. Then we took her to the hospital, straight to the ICU, she was treated there for about two weeks," said Aditya Tumbuan at Rumah Duka Sentosa, RSPAD Gatot Subroto, Central Jakarta, on Thursday (23/6) night.

4. Infection Spreading to Vital Organs

The wound that Rima Melati suffered apparently resulted in the emergence of several other diseases in her vital organs. From there, Rima Melati's health continued to decline, so she had to be taken to RSPAD Gatot Subroto for further treatment since June 7, 2022.

"It turns out there was another infection which spread from the first infection, namely the lungs. Her lungs started to fill with water, and had to be drained. From there, it spread to the kidneys. And from there, my mother had to undergo dialysis seven times while in RSPAD. The result did make her stable, but sometimes it was her age that made her struggle. So, she was stable but sometimes she would drop," said Aditya.

5. Already Accepting the Departure of his Mother

As a son, Aditya admitted that he was willing to let go of his mother's passing. Aditya was lucky to be able to accompany his mother in her final moments before she left forever.

"Today, I accompanied my mother before she took her last breath, I was by her side. We all have to accept it, be strong, and I, especially me and my wife believe, that life there is much better than here and God loves my mother more than when she was still here," he said.
