Sentenced to 2 Months in Prison, Arya Claproth Insists on Innocence in the Domestic Violence Case Against Karen Pooroe

Kapanlagi.com - The case of alleged domestic violence by Arya Claproth, reported by his ex-wife, Karen Pooroe, is still ongoing at the Bandung District Court. In the hearing held on July 13, 2021, the agenda has entered the demand from the Public Prosecutor (JPU).

In the demand, the prosecutor stated that the father of one child is guilty and demanded 2 months of imprisonment.

"The prosecutor's demand is related to physical violence, allegedly committed by Arya against Karen. In that case, Arya is demanded two months of imprisonment," said Andreas Nahot, Arya Claproth's legal representative when met in Pancoran, South Jakarta, on Thursday (22/7).

Because he firmly believes he is innocent, Arya Claproth submitted a defense statement. According to him, at that time he was only taking preventive measures against his ex-wife's suicide. "In this case, many facts have been revealed regarding Karen's efforts, both regarding the (child's) death and previous suicide attempts," he said.

2. Allegations of Domestic Violence

"Our defense essentially aims to make it clear that Arya's actions were an act of domestic violence, but an effort to prevent Karen from committing suicide. The most important and highlighted point is also the absence of a medical examination for the article used by the prosecutor," Andreas Nahot added.

As reported, Karen Pooroe reported Arya Claproth for alleged domestic violence at the Bandung City Police Station, West Java, on September 8, 2019. In this case, Arya was charged with Article 45 paragraph 2 of the Indonesian Law No. 23 of 2004 on Domestic Violence, with a maximum penalty of four years in prison.
