Sulaiman, the son of Oki Setiana Dewi, is known to suffer from a rare disease called Prader Willi Syndrome (PWS). Prader Willi is one of the genetic diseases caused by a disorder on chromosome 15. This disease causes abnormalities in many systems in the body of the sufferer.
Stem cell has become one of the therapies that Oki has pursued for his son. In total, Sulaiman has undergone stem cell therapy five times.
"This is Sulaiman's fifth stem cell therapy. Thank you to Prof Vinski Deby and the team who have been supporting Sulaiman all this time," wrote Oki.
Prof Deby himself revealed in 2022 that stem cells do not change the sequence of chromosomes and genetics. Stem cells help address the consequences of the chromosomal abnormalities that Sulaiman has.
Oki acknowledged that since Sulaiman was born, there have been many series of therapies undertaken. Even to be able to walk, a long struggle was required.
"Sulaiman until today still receives hormone injections every day, still undergoes various therapies every day, physiotherapy, sensory therapy, and many more," he explained.
