Taqy Malik Allegedly Profiting from the Al-Qur'an Endowment, Photographer Randy Permana Exposes the Prices

Kapanlagi.com - Negative issues are currently surrounding Taqy Malik regarding the Al-Qur'an endowment business he runs in Saudi Arabia. This came to light after Randy Permana, a photographer living in Makkah, revealed allegations of a significant price discrepancy. Randy stated that the price set by Taqy for donors is far above the actual market price in stores around Makkah and Madinah.

According to Randy, initially, the purchase of the Al-Qur'an could be made directly at the factory at a low price. However, due to restrictions from Saudi authorities, purchases were shifted to retail stores. He suspects Taqy is profiting up to hundreds of thousands of rupiah per mushaf, which when multiplied by thousands of donors, amounts to hundreds of millions of rupiah.

"He claims to sell the mushaf at a price of 80 riyals or around Rp330,000, which is double the price, because he can no longer buy in bulk at the factory. So whether he likes it or not, he has to buy at stores where the average price is 40 to 50 riyals. The difference is the profit he takes is more than what he pays for the mushaf," said Randy Permana at a virtual press conference on Friday (13/2/2026).

Randy also detailed the calculations of the profits obtained from the program. For him, the figures are very fantastic for a social activity or endowment. He feels called to speak out because he does not want the community or congregations in Indonesia to feel deceived by prices that are considered unreasonable.

"Let me calculate this. The average price of a mushaf that we take from the stores is 40 riyals multiplied by the current exchange rate, which we take as Rp4,500. So, the price of the mushaf in the store if we buy it is around Rp180,000. Right? Now, he sells it for Rp330,000 minus Rp180,000, so his profit is Rp150,000 multiplied by what he claims is 2,000 mushafs. He gets Rp300 million in one trip," he explained.

Randy emphasized that he also often helps channel endowments, but with a very small profit margin only for operational costs. He regrets if there are parties that seek excessive profit from the good intentions of the people to endow in the Holy Land.

"I myself also open opportunities for anyone who wants to entrust their mandate to me. But if you trust us through services or mutawif or whatever, we don’t take much profit, maybe just Rp10,000 per mushaf or so, not up to Rp150,000. Don’t be greedy, that’s all I have to say as a message to Taqy," Randy clarified.

3. No Communication Yet Between Randy and Taqy

Until now, Randy admits that there has been no communication from Taqy Malik's side, even though he has spoken out on social media. He is also ready if invited to discuss or debate the data he has presented.

"There is none. I'm waiting for that. He has my contact, but nothing. Although I also see his friends monitoring, his brother monitoring my Story or whatever. I am really waiting for that. Because if he wants to open a debate space, let's discuss," he concluded.
