Vina Panduwinata Reveals the Sad Fact About the Creator of the Lyrics 'Burung Camar', Does Not Receive a Single Cent in Royalties

Senior singer Vina Panduwinata was present and gave a touching testimony about the fate of song creators in Indonesia whose rights are often neglected.

This moment occurred when the diva affectionately known as Mama Ina attended a Public Hearing (RDPU) regarding the harmonization of the Draft Law (RUU) on Copyright. As a representative of Vibrasi Suara Indonesia (VISI), Vina vocally expressed her concerns.

Initially, the discussion revolved around the mechanism of royalty payments, which were considered to still have loopholes. The performer of September Ceria highlighted how the rights of creators could be fulfilled if there were additional songs performed spontaneously on stage.

"During the show, at the concert, there are sometimes requests from the audience for additional songs," said Vina Panduwinata during the RDPU held in Jakarta on Tuesday (11/11/2025).

He feels that the system requiring royalty payments to be made before the event does not fully protect the rights of song creators in such conditions.

However, the discussion became deeper and more personal when Vina began to tell the story behind one of her biggest hit songs, Burung Camar. She recalled her conversation with the lyricist, Iwan Abdulrachman.

"I talked with Kang Iwan Abdurachman about four months ago, he is the one who wrote the lyrics for Burung Camar," she said.

The facts revealed next are truly heartbreaking. Vina conveyed that the lyricist of that legendary song has not received any royalties at all for decades.

"I have never received a single cent. I cried when I heard that," Vina expressed, mimicking Iwan's words during their conversation.
