'Nurlela' by Andre Taulany and Ayu Ting Ting Reminds Us of the Legendary Duet Benyamin Sueb - Ida Royani

This collaboration was born naturally after they often performed together in a Ramadan program on television. The chemistry formed on screen led to the idea of reviving this classic song in a modern version.

"It all started because of one program with the haji, the breaking fast program. We were given the opportunity to sing during a few episodes, and it turns out we had great chemistry," said Ayu Ting Ting when met in Tendean, South Jakarta, on Friday (28/11/2024).

According to her, the idea to create this duet project emerged after seeing the great enthusiasm from the audience towards their performances. Andre Taulany added that the positive reception from the audience became their main motivation to seriously pursue this project. He admitted he did not expect the duet to go viral and receive a lot of praise.

"The audience's response was great and viral. When we duet, the reaction was also incredibly good," said Andre.

Seeing this, Andre and Ayu agreed to give a new vibe to the song that once became an icon in the past. The song "Nurlela" was chosen because it is considered a symbol of modern collaboration that reminds us of the legendary duet of Benyamin Sueb and Ida Royani.

"Nurlela is a song by Bing Slamet and has previously been covered seriously, like by Trio Lestari. Now, this is the version by Andre Taulany and Ayu Ting Ting," said Andre Taulany.

2. Recording Amidst a Busy Schedule

The recording process for this song went smoothly even though they had to adjust to their busy schedules. Andre revealed that Ayu Ting Ting is a professional who quickly finishes the vocal take process.

"She (Ayu Ting Ting) is already good at singing, the vocal take is done quickly. The hard part is finding a suitable schedule," he said.

"Mr. Haji (Andre) is the one who listens right away, usually just asks for a few practice sessions," added Ayu.

3. Praise From Andre For Ayu

Andre did not forget to praise Ayu as the perfect duet partner for this project. According to him, Ayu has a cheerful and sociable personality, which makes their collaboration enjoyable.

"Ayu is a cheerful person, she is well-liked by many. Her personality is delightful, we are on the same wavelength," said Andre.

Andre revealed that this duet is likely to continue into future projects. He mentioned that they have already planned a new original song that they will sing together.

"After 'Nurlela', we are indeed working on a single of our own creation. Essentially, we both want to create something like the version of Benyamin and Ida Royani. Please pray for us, hopefully, there will be more singles to come," concluded Andre.
