Delayed for Two Years, Theater Koma's 223rd Play 'SAMPEK ENGTAY' Finally Takes the Stage

Kapanlagi.com - Are you familiar with the name Teater Koma? Established since 1977, Teater Koma consistently presents various interesting and entertaining performances for theater lovers. However, the pandemic that hit the world has caused various stage performances to be postponed in order to prevent the spread of Covid-19.

As time goes by, Teater Koma is back in process and presents a play titled SAMPEK ENGTAY. This play is here to answer the longing of its supporters. Supported by Bakti Budaya Djarum Foundation, this play was performed on Saturday (5/3) and Sunday (6/3), at 13.00 and 18.30 WIB at Ciputra Artpreneur, Ciputra World Jakarta.

"After a long wait and making some adjustments, the play SAMPEK ENGTAY which was originally scheduled to be performed in 2020, finally took place following the applicable health protocols, where the audience present was 50% of the building's capacity," said Ratna Riantiarno, the Production Manager of Teater Koma.

"With the limited capacity, most of the audience are those who have purchased tickets two years ago. This is how Teater Koma responds to the support and trust of ticket holders who have been patiently waiting for two years for the play SAMPEK ENGTAY to be staged. Thank you to the art enthusiasts who have been patiently waiting, hopefully this long wait will be paid off with a great performance," she added.

1. A Story About a Love Story

The play, which was originally scheduled to be performed in March 2020, tells the story of Engtay, a girl from Serang, who wants to go to school in Betawi. At that time, women were not allowed to go to school. After trying hard to convince her parents, Engtay goes to Betawi disguised as a boy. When she gets lost on the way, Engtay meets Sampek, who happens to be going to the same school.

This is where Engtay's love story begins. She throws various hints at Sampek. But Sampek, who is a bookworm and diligent in studying, is completely unaware. Will Engtay reveal her true identity to Sampek? What will happen to their love? If you watch this play, you will surely know the ending of SAMPEK ENGTAY.

2. Delayed for a While

Riantiarno revealed that during its two-year delay, this play that explores love and social issues has undergone four schedule changes and script revisions to reduce its duration. Then, in order to provide the best performance for the 1200 ticket buyers who have kept and eagerly awaited this play since 2020. Are you one of the people who have watched it yet?

This play is enlivened by performances from Tuti Hartati, Ratna Riantiarno, Budi Ros, Emanuel Handoyo, Bayu Dharmawan, Daisy Lantang, Angga Yasti, Hengky Gunawan, Adri Prasetyo, Sir Ilham Jambak, Rangga Riantiarno, and Lutfi Ardiansyah. In addition, there are many other members of Teater Koma who have been committed to being involved in this production for the past two years.

Renitasari Adrian, Program Director of Bakti Budaya Djarum Foundation, revealed that the performance of the play SAMPEK ENGTAY is proof that Teater Koma never tires of innovating in presenting quality performances in the midst of the ongoing pandemic. On March 1st, Teater Koma has colored and enlivened the world of performing arts in Indonesia for 45 years through various works and innovations on stage.

4. The Great People Behind This Play

The script is written and directed by N. Riantiarno with co-director Ohan Adiputra. Supported by artistic director Idries Pulungan, music director Fero A. Stefanus, makeup artist Subarkah Hadisarjana, lighting director Deray Setyadi, and choreographer Ratna Ully who collaborate to help the audience follow and understand the whole storyline.

Furthermore, sound design by Matt Pallo, vocal guidance by Naomi LG, and graphic design by RA7DIKA assisted by technical director Tinton Prianggoro result in a distinctive and well-presented performance in the style of Teater Koma, under the stage manager Sari Madjid and production leader Ratna Riantiarno.
