IndoFringe Festival, Local Artists Known Worldwide

Kapanlagi.com - The Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy will create the largest art festival in Asia, namely the IndoFringe International Festival of Performing Arts.

This festival will be held simultaneously in 200 venues spread across Jakarta and Bali for 10 days from November 10th to 19th, 2023.

"This is part of the adaptation from the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, which has been running for more than 70 years. Hopefully, IndoFringe can be successful and create business opportunities and job opportunities," said Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy Sandiaga Uno at the Sapta Pesona Building, Jakarta, on Tuesday (25/7/2023).

1. Display Various Performing Arts

IndoFringe Festival will showcase various performing arts, visual arts, applied arts, and crafts, both locally and internationally. Through IndoFringe, it is hoped to promote Indonesian arts and culture to the world while encouraging event tourism and improving the country's socio-economic value.

"We believe that Indonesia has a significant cultural influence globally. The best way for us to expand this is by giving local artists the opportunity to showcase their talents and collaborate with international artists," said Sandiaga Uno.

2. Collaborating with 35 Countries

IndoFringe will collaborate with 35 countries worldwide. The plan is for IndoFringe to expand its reach to several regions within the next five years.

"In the next five years, IndoFringe will be present in 100 cities and regencies in Indonesia, not just Jakarta and Bali. Because there is a unique methodology in IndoFringe. We create a hyperlocal growth process where each city/regency will hold an IndoFringe Festival, then send the winner to Jakarta or the nearest city," said Sacin V Gopalan, the person in charge of IndoFringe Festival.

Meanwhile, Mo Sidik, the Director of IndoFringe Festival, said that this festival is expected to be a platform for local artists who pass the curation process to showcase their abilities and gain international recognition.

"The mechanism is to introduce local artists to be widely known in international events," he said.
