Realizing an Environmentally Friendly Village, KKN UM 2023 Students Bring the Environmental Agency to Socialize Waste Sorting to the People of Pandanrejo Village

The awareness of Indonesian society regarding the importance of environmental cleanliness still needs to be improved. This became the reference for KKN students from Universitas Negeri Malang 2023 to hold a waste sorting socialization event at the Pandanrejo Village hall on Tuesday (18/7/2023) yesterday.

13 KKN members who were involved took the first step towards awareness of how important their role is in directly contributing to the environment around them. With enthusiasm and excitement, they carried out the 3R waste sorting socialization program in Pandanrejo Village on July 18, 2023, as an implementation of one of the main work programs of this year's KKN activities.

A series of lengthy processes occurred in the implementation and tangible form of the 3R work program (Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle) carried out by KKN Pandanrejo 2023 students. And here are 3 important points regarding the implementation process of the 3R work program carried out by the KKN UM Pandanrejo Village 2023 students.

1. Concerns About Waste Conditions in Pandanrejo Village

Previously, KKN students conducted field observations regarding the waste conditions in the surrounding residential areas of Pandanrejo Village. After further discussion and deliberation, the students identified several main issues faced by the village community, including uncontrolled waste accumulation, lack of waste management facilities, and ineffective waste sorting system.

These issues have caused concerns and worries within the village environment, necessitating collaborative efforts between the community, village officials, and relevant parties. This led to the inception of the 3R work program, which focuses on addressing waste-related concerns in the surrounding environment, making it one of the main programs of the KKN UM 2023 students.

Through socialization, it is hoped that awareness among residents regarding the importance of proper waste management will increase, and education on effective waste sorting techniques will be provided.

2. Implementation of the 3R Program

Previously, UM 2023 KKN students took the initiative to address the waste problem in Pandanrejo Village by making 3R waste sorting socialization the main focus of the KKN work program. As a follow-up, in collaboration and cooperation with the village apparatus and the community, these UM 2023 KKN students organized a socialization event on July 18, 2023. The event was attended by the Environmental Agency as the speaker to provide knowledge and insights about the importance of environmentally friendly waste management.

Support from the Environmental Agency is expected to inspire residents to take concrete actions in dealing with waste issues. Through this program, the collaboration that has been established between students, villagers, and authorities is able to achieve the common goal of creating a more environmentally friendly and sustainable village.

With this socialization, the students hope that this step can increase awareness and active participation of the villagers in sorting waste and creating a clean and healthy environment for the good of the village community itself. And this is a joint effort in sustainable waste management to have a positive impact on the environment and the health of the residents.

3. Community Response and Village Officials

Like a bucket of water, the waste separation socialization held by the KKN students of Malang State University in Pandanrejo Village received positive and enthusiastic responses from the community and village officials. The village officials opened the door for collaboration and provided full support to the KKN students and authorities, while the villagers actively participated in the socialization event. This collaboration demonstrates the seriousness and commitment to creating positive changes in waste management and making Pandanrejo Village an environmentally friendly, clean, healthy, and sustainable village.

Hoping that this program can increase awareness among residents about the importance of proper waste separation with the 3R principle. The various disciplines possessed by the KKN students of Malang State University help them synergize with the community of Pandanrejo Village to create a socialization program that has a positive impact, and its implementation is highly dependent on the sustainability of the existing village community. Thus, active participation of residents in waste management is expected to prevent, overcome, and reduce waste accumulation around the community in order to improve their quality of life.
