'MORTAL KOMBAT 2' Has Started Production, Check Out the Info Here

Kapanlagi.com - In April 2020, the world was presented with a new live-action film MORTAL KOMBAT, which had been developed for almost a decade. The MORTAL KOMBAT Reboot features several top actors such as Lewis Tan, Jessica McNamee, Hiroyuki Sanada, and Joe Taslim.

The cinematic reboot, based on the popular video game series, also performed well at the box office. The Warner Bros film was one of the top feature titles on HBO Max last year thanks to its faithful adaptation of the original story.

1. New Writer

According to Deadline, MORTAL KOMBAT 2 will introduce a new screenplay writer, and it is Jeremy Slater, who previously served as the head writer for the Marvel series MOON KNIGHT. Previously, Slater also wrote FANTASTIC FOUR 2015 with Josh Trank and Simon Kinberg, as well as developed the Netflix series THE UMBRELLA ACADEMY. Alongside MORTAL KOMBAT 2, Slater is also working on the upcoming film LOONEY TUNES COYOTE VS. ACME.

Last year's MORTAL KOMBAT was written by Greg Russo and David Callaham, and now Jeremy Slater. As for the director, the first MORTAL KOMBAT was directed by Simon McQuoid, but it is still unclear whether he will repeat his role for the sequel MORTAL KOMBAT.

2. New Characters

MORTAL KOMBAT first introduces Cole Young, played by Lewis Tan, an MMA fighter who learns about his secret heritage and is recruited to help keep Earth safe from the evil forces of Outworld. Unfortunately, there is currently no news about which cast members will return for MORTAL KOMBAT 2, including Lewis Tan, Jessica McNamee, Mehcad Brooks, Joe Taslim, and Hiroyuki Sanada.

If the story continues from the first Mortal Kombat, you might see Johnny Cage, one of the main protagonists from the video game series who only appears at the end of MORTAL KOMBAT. As for the reason why Johnny was not included in the first film, Greg Russo previously told CinemaBlend that it's because he prefers to introduce Johnny and other characters "properly" later rather than "forcefully including them in the film and making it feel unnatural."

3. New Story

Although the reboot is packed with terrifying fights, the famous fighting tournament of the MORTAL KOMBAT franchise has never actually happened in the film. As explained, in this continuity, Outworld has defeated Earth in the tournament nine times before, and if Earth loses for the tenth time, Outworld will conquer the planet Earth.

Since Jeremy Slater is currently writing MORTAL KOMBAT 2, it may take some time until the details of the new story and characters are announced to the public. But for now, it makes sense to assume that MORTAL KOMBAT 2 will feature a story revolving around the tournament, especially after being mentioned several times in the first film.
