Karla Sofia Gascon is a Spanish actor who began her career in the world of acting at the age of 16. Carlos Gascon was born on March 31, 1972, in Alcobendas, Spain.

Gascon married Marisa Gutierrez, whom he met when he was 19 years old. They have a daughter who was born in 2011.

In 2018, Karla Sofia Gascon completed her gender transition procedure. She also published an autobiography titled Karsia, Una historia extraordinaria (Karsia: An Extraordinary Story) under her birth name to announce her new identity as Karla Sofia Gascon.

During her career, at the age of 16, Gascon decided to pursue a career in acting. She obtained a degree in acting from ECAM (School of Film and Audiovisual Media Madrid).

Before 2014, Gascon played male characters. He appeared in the Spanish daily soap opera El super as a flight attendant. Then Gascón continued his career by participating in projects in films such as SE BUSCAN FULMONTIS, ME DA IGUAL, BOX 507, and SAY I DO.

In 2009, Gascon moved to Mexico to continue his career in Mexican filmmaking and took on several roles in telenovelas. In 2013, in the Mexican box office film THE NOBLE FAMILY, Gascón played Peter Pintado, an opportunistic boyfriend who pretends to be Spanish but is actually from Puebla.

In 2022, Gascon played Lourdes Buendía in the teen drama series REBELDE. Then in 2024, Gascón played the main character in the film EMILIA PEREZ and received a nomination for Best Actress at the 2024 Cannes Film Festival. This made Gascon the first openly transgender actor to win a major award at Cannes.

In the film, Gascon plays a cartel leader who is trying to disappear, undergoing a medical transition from male to female, and starting a new life as Emilia Perez. The film EMILIA PEREZ also earned Karla Sofía Gascon a nomination for the Academy Award for Best Actress.
