Amazing! Indonesian Remake of 'MY SASSY GIRL' Filmed Using the Camera Used in 'AVATAR 2'

Kapanlagi.com - A surprising fact has emerged from the Indonesian remake of MY SASSY GIRL. During filming, the romantic drama directed by Fajar Bustomi apparently used the Sony Venice 2 camera.

Interestingly, Fajar became the first Indonesian director to shoot a film using that camera. This is the same camera that James Cameron used during the filming of AVATAR 2: THE WAY OF WATER.

"Every director wants to have the best equipment for their film. Luckily, I was given the opportunity by Sony to try the camera used by James Cameron. Hopefully the results are good and not disappointing," said Fajar, who was met in the Duren Tiga area of South Jakarta on Tuesday (31/5/2022).

1. Starting from the Success of 'DILAN 1990'

Fajar Bustomi said that the offer of collaboration from Sony came after the success of the film DILAN 1990. However, at that time he was not brave enough to accept the offer because the borrowed camera was only one. He was afraid that something unwanted would happen considering that the filming process of DILAN 1991 and MILEA was done back to back.

"Alhamdulilah Dilan was successful and some brands trusted me. Then Sony offered this Venice 2 camera for Dilan two and three. At that time, I was not brave enough because the camera was only borrowed one, if we were filming and the camera broke down, I was afraid the filming would not proceed. Then they came again and collaborated with Falcon Pictures," said Fajar.

2. Advantages of the Venice 2 Camera

Fajar Bustomi felt proud that his film could be shot using the Venice 2 camera. He also revealed the advantages of the camera that were not possessed by the cameras he often used in previous titles.

"This camera, in terms of resolution, first it is full frame, second it is 6K, while our cinemas still use 2K and 4K, high resolution. In terms of dynamic range when shooting outdoors, between dark and light, if we miscalculate, the over-exposure can be normalized again," explained the director who is often seen wearing a reversed cap.

"Then there are more colors, better resolution. Then I shot using a master anamorphic lens specifically for cinemas. Later, when this film is watched in cinemas, it will be on a wide screen because this camera has high resolution, while other cameras cannot do it yet," he added.

3. Expensive Budget Can Be Used to Make Drama Films

Through MY SASSY GIRL which was shot using an expensive camera, Fajar Bustomi wants to make a statement that drama films can also be made with fantastic budgets. Which has been commonly known that making dramas can be cheaper.

"This film is perfect to show that not all romantic films are that simple. It can show that romantic drama films can be supported by Hollywood-level cameras. I am so proud that MY SASSY GIRL can be supported by a good IP and given two cameras to try," said Fajar.
