Anggika Bolsterli Reveals Challenges When Chosen as a Surrogate Mother in the Film DEAR JO

Kapanlagi.com - Anggika Bolsterli once again showcases her acting skills. This time in her latest film titled DEAR JO (Almost is Never Enough).

In the film, she plays Ella, a single parent who is willing to become a surrogate mother to please her friend.

Becoming a surrogate mother poses its own challenges for Anggika Bolsterli. As someone who is not married and does not have children, she had difficulties portraying the character of Ella.

"Perhaps the difficulty lies in being a surrogate mother, finding out what emotions a surrogate mother should have, and coincidentally, I am not married and do not have children. So there are many things," said Anggika Bolsterli after the premiere of the film DEAR JO (Almost Never Enough) at Epicentrum Kuningan, Jakarta, on Wednesday night (August 2, 2023).

1. Learning from Many References

In the shooting process, Anggika admitted that she was greatly assisted by director Monty Tiwa and Lakonde. Reading and watching videos about pregnant women also became a reference that helped her a lot in portraying the character of Ella.

"But I was greatly helped by the director, the team, and friends. I also searched for references, like watching videos about pregnant women, reading about what pregnant women are like, how they walk, how they sit, and so on," she said.

2. Brief Synopsis

The film DEAR JO tells the story of Joshua (Jourdy Pranata) and Maura (Salsabilla Adriani), a young married couple who work in Baku, Azerbaijan. Despite their financial success, they feel empty because Maura cannot get pregnant.

Maura confides in her close friend, Ella (Anggika Bolsterli), a single parent from Indonesia who also lives in Baku.

Ella understands Maura's desire to have a child, and to please Maura, Ella eventually agrees to become a surrogate mother by lending her womb.

However, an unexpected event occurs while Ella is pregnant. Maura dies in a tragic accident.

This event greatly devastates Ella and Joshua. Their lives become chaotic and not as planned.
