Dare to be Different! Paragon Pictures Produces Horror Film About Vatican Exorcism Ritual in Indonesia Titled 'KUASA GELAP'

Kapanlagi.com - Production house Paragon Pictures is preparing a horror film that is different from the others. They will be producing a terrifying spectacle with the theme of exorcism titled KUASA GELAP.

Producer Robert Ronny got the initial idea from reading an article. Upon further research, it was discovered that every Catholic church could perform exorcism rituals as long as they had permission from the Vatican.

"The initial idea came from me reading an article about a priest in Indonesia, whom I cannot name, who was performing regular exorcisms. After I did some research, it turned out that Catholic churches in Indonesia can perform exorcisms for their followers as long as they have permission from the Vatican to perform the ritual," said Robert during a press conference at the International Design School in South Jakarta on Tuesday (30/5/2023).

1. Masking the Identity of the Victim

After conducting research with the help of the church and the priest, several stories were discovered about exorcism rituals performed on teenage girls. However, for the film version, some details such as names and locations are deliberately disguised to protect the privacy of the victims.

"From talking with the church and the priest, it turns out there are many cases of exorcism. Because the church is trying to protect the identity of the victims possessed by demons, we cannot mention names and locations. For the film's story, we will combine several cases so that the audience cannot easily identify them, because the story is somewhat sensitive," explained Robert.

2. Shooting at the End of the Year

The KUASA GELAP film directed by Bobby Prasetyo features Jerome Kurnia, Lukman Sardi, and Astrid Tiar as the cast. If there are no obstacles, the film will start shooting at the end of the year.

"The script is already finished but we need to do the final touch to adjust the location. Meanwhile, if there are no obstacles, we want to shoot at the end of this year for release next year. It's extremely difficult to synchronize the schedules of the cast and all the crew," said Robert.
