Ersya Aurelia's Total Commitment in 'KAMPUNG JABANG MAYIT: RITUAL MAUT', Must Endure Nausea During Extreme Scene Shooting

Actress Ersya Aurelia demonstrates her total commitment in the world of acting through her latest film project titled Kampung Jabang Mayit: Ritual Maut. To deeply understand the character named Weda, she is willing to learn something new that she has never done before, which is contemporary dance.

In this horror film, the beautiful 25-year-old plays Weda, a successful model from the capital whose life changes drastically. Her character gets trapped in a relationship with Bagas (played by Bukie B. Mansyur) leading to an unplanned pregnancy, which then brings her into a dangerous abortion ritual in a remote village.

The depiction of a character as a woman whose career is at its peak but is threatened to fall apart due to pregnancy presents a significant challenge. Ersya admitted that she needed extra effort to build an emotional connection with the burden felt by Weda.

"Emotionally, it's quite difficult to imagine being pregnant out of wedlock while my career is doing well. It's quite a burden emotionally," said Ersya Aurelia when met at the Gala Premier of the film at Grand Indonesia, Jakarta, on Monday (21/7/2025).

The challenges she faced did not stop at just delving into the character's emotions. Her acting was also tested physically, especially when she had to perform a ritual scene that is one of the core elements of this film's story. One scene required her to dance in unfriendly weather, which was a first-time experience for her.

"The first ritual scene I learned contemporary dance. During the shooting, it was quite heavy because it was in broad daylight, pretty hot," she said.

The process of shooting the dance scene turned out to have a significant impact on her. The actress born in Tangerang admitted to feeling so drained of energy that she felt dazed and lost awareness of her surroundings. "When I was doing it, it felt quite surreal like I wasn't grounded," she said.

The effect of the intense character immersion even made it difficult for her to return to being herself after the shooting was over. So total was her performance that Ersya admitted to losing her voice after performing the heavy ritual scene.

In addition to the dancing scenes, there is one more extreme scene that really tests his physical endurance. He is faced with an unusual prop and has to fight hard against his body's natural reactions. Ersya also shared how he had to hold back his nausea while performing that scene.
