Falcon Pictures Remake of Successful Bollywood Film 'CONGRATULATIONS', Starring Desy Ratnasari and Onadio Leonardo

Kapanlagi.com - After MIRACLE IN CELL NO 7 which became one of the best-selling films of all time in South Korea, followed by THE INVISIBLE GUEST produced in Spain, Falcon Pictures once again bought the rights to adapt a foreign film. This time it's BADHAAI HO directed by Bollywood filmmaker with Ayushmann Khurrana as the star.

In addition to the box office factor when it was released in 2018, BADHAAI HO was chosen because it has a good story material. The conflict it carries is also very close to the Indonesian society in general.

"Why do we bring this film to be remade in Indonesia? Because the story is good. In India, it's like a hidden gem, no one expected the film to be successful when it was released in 2018 because all the actors were new. But it turned out to be very interesting in terms of story, a complete comedy drama," said Frederica as the producer during the press conference via Zoom on Tuesday (18/8/2020).

1. Marketing Popular Material

Three successful films in their respective countries have been and will be remade by Falcon Pictures. According to the producer's perspective, this step is common for production houses worldwide because it will be easier to market films whose original material is already popular.

"The trend in the film industry has actually been the same from the past until now. What is sought after is popular intellectual property, which can come from songs, novels, and now we remake box office films from certain countries. Because it will be easier for us to socialize it to the public," added the woman who is familiarly called Erica.

2. From a Creative Perspective

Indonesian version BADHAAI HO titled KELUARGA SLAMET directed by Rako Prijanto. This comedy drama stars actors and actresses from different generations. From the most senior ones, namely Widyawati, Indro Warkop, Desy Ratnasari, Wulan Guritno, Aurora Ribero, Onadio Leonardo to the rising star newcomer Abun Sungkar.

Rako revealed that he chose these names from a creative perspective. Once one actor was found, other names followed and were adjusted.

"Why did these actors appear, initially it was of course from the script, what do we need. I assess it from a creative perspective, not a business plan. Imagine if the father's character is played by Pakde Indro, and the mother's character is played by Teh Desy, it wouldn't be suitable if their child is Nicholas Saputra," he said.

3. Pregnant at an Old Age

CONGRATULATIONS tells the story of a small family whose peace is disrupted when Priyamvada, the mother, becomes pregnant with their third child at an older age. This embarrasses their grown-up children, who try to keep it a secret from everyone.

This film, directed by Amit Ravindrenath Sharma, achieved remarkable success upon its release. Not only critically, but it also collected 221.44 crore (around Rp 576 billion) from a budget of only 29 crore.
