Biopic Drama Buya Hamka Planned for Release in 2021, Split into Two Films

Kapanlagi.com - Two renowned production houses, Falcon Pictures and Starvision, are working on a drama about the life journey of Buya Hamka. This film starring Vino G Bastian has been in the shooting process since April 2019.

After a long absence of news, Chand Parwez, one of the producers, stated that the biopic will be split into two parts. The first film is titled BUYA and is planned to be released in early 2021, while the second part titled BUYA HAMKA will be released in mid-2021.

"The film about Buya Hamka has two parts. The first part is titled BUYA, and the second part is titled BUYA HAMKA. Currently, we are in the editing process. Despite the pandemic, we are still editing. The first part is already finished and it's really great, and now we are completing the second part," said Chand as quoted during a live session on Instagram CGV Cinemas last week.

1. Not In a Hurry

Chand Parwez initially wanted to release a film about Buya Hamka this year. However, the arrival of the corona virus pandemic has caused all preparations to change. He feels that there is no need to rush for maximum results.

"This is a period film, no need to rush. We have to manage the circulation of the film, the promotion must be planned as well. We must also have variations, not just copying and pasting a successful film. I don't want that," said the renowned producer.

2. Vino as Buya Hamka

Actor Vino G Bastian was chosen to play the role of Buya Hamka. He admitted that he couldn't believe it when given the opportunity to portray the famous cleric and writer.

"I never imagined getting an offer for this film. I still approach it as a complete learning experience from scratch. How is Buya Hamka as a writer, a statesman, his struggles, until he becomes the figure we know today with his gentleness. The process is very long and that's what I want to show," said the husband of actress Marsha Timothy during a press conference before the shooting process began.

"Buya Hamka himself was only known from the 1950s. Initially, people only knew him as Malik and why he became known as Hamka, we will tell that story here. So there are many things to be told in this film, but hopefully it becomes a film that is longed for because many people miss him," Vino concluded.
