Avoid Controversy, Hanung Bramantyo Changes the Legal System in the Film 'MIRACLE IN CELL NO 7' Indonesia

MIRACLE IN CELL NO 7 is a remake of the South Korean film with the same title released in 2013. When it was released, it was not only successful at the box office but also managed to make the audience cry.

1. Does Not Show the Real Legal System

Considering the remake of a foreign film, there are certainly cultural and cultural adjustments. However, there are points intentionally not changed regarding the legal system and justice in the film. Hanung admitted to doing it intentionally to avoid controversy.

"If we look at the legal aspects in this film, even though the actors are Indonesian, they do not use the law in Indonesia. But the law in this film. So we eliminate all attributes of this country. Because our country adheres to democracy, but freedom of speech is still learning. So we don't want to really show our country's law. We make it as if it is in our own country, our own city, even the name of the prison is fictional," said Hanung during a virtual conference session, Monday (11/5/2020).

2. Could Be Dangerous

Hanung revealed that it would be dangerous if the legal system in Indonesia was truly shown in this film starring Vino G Bastian, Tora Sudiro, and Mawar De Jongh. Because there will be parties who feel disturbed. This was also confirmed by the legal advisor involved in the film.

"The legal procedure is not suitable in Indonesia. Because if we use the Indonesian system, there will be many obstacles and dangers. This is not my decision or the producer's, but it's actually from our legal advisor. We were asked: 'Do you really want to use Indonesian law? Why should we use Indonesian law?' Finally, we create," said Hanung.

He continued, "My opinion is very reasonable. Because you all know that I have been in court because of a film. That's why when the audience asks why Indonesian law is not like this, why the judge is not like this, well, we intentionally did that. Because once it is very accurate, it will be dangerous for our entity," he concluded.

3. Smuggled Into the Cell

MIRACLE IN CELL NO 7 tells the story of Dodo (played by Vino G Bastian), an intellectually disabled and autistic man who has a young child. One day, he is accused of murder and subsequently detained.

The situation becomes even more complicated when Dodo's child, named Kartika (Graciella Abigail), is smuggled into the cell. Many funny and sad stories unfold as Dodo and Ika live in the cell with other prisoners.
