Film 'YUNI' Selected to Represent Indonesia at the 94th Academy Awards

Kapanlagi.com - The film YUNI by Kamila Andini was selected by the Indonesian Oscars Selection Committee 2021 to represent Indonesia at the 94th Academy Awards. The drama starring Arawinda Kirana will compete in the international featured film category.

Hanung Bramantyo, who was appointed as the Chairman of the Selection Committee, revealed that the candidate titles were very good. However, after considering various aspects, YUNI was chosen, which won the Platform Prize at the Toronto International Film Festival.

"We have conducted a quite long and challenging selection process from several nominated films. If we could send more, we would send more because some films have represented Indonesia at international events," said Hanung, as quoted by KapanLagi.com in a virtual press conference on Friday (15/10/2021).

"Finally, we chose one. And proudly, as the selection committee, we have determined the film titled YUNI as the chosen film to represent Indonesia at the Academy Awards," added Hanung.

1. Government Assistance Needed to Campaign

Chand Parwez, as the producer of YUNI, expresses his joy over the film being selected to represent Indonesia at the Academy Awards. However, the road to compete with titles from other countries is not an easy task. Government support is needed for Indonesia's representation to be noticed by the Oscars jury.

"I express my gratitude and alhamdulilah because YUNI was chosen to represent Indonesia at this prestigious event. It is both a pride and a challenge because we understand very well that we still face difficulties in accessing funding. Because the Oscars is different from other festivals," said Chand Parwez on the same occasion.

"There must be a lot of promotional efforts and approaches to the jury to gain more attention. We hope for assistance from the government to campaign for YUNI at the Oscars," said the founder of Starvision production house.

YUNI tells the story of a high school girl named Yuni who has big dreams of continuing her education to the college level. However, her dream is hindered by the thoughts of marriage after graduating from school by the people around her.
