Kapanlagi.com - The night of the Piala Citra Indonesian Film Festival 2020 Awards can be watched virtually through the RCTI+ platform. This year's FFI is held amidst the COVID-19 pandemic and of course, that adds its own challenges for the committee led by Lukman Sardi.
Nia Dinata, as part of the selection and judging team, explained that the biggest challenge of this year's FFI is the number of films that registered. She mentioned that this year's FFI has experienced a decrease in film registrations. During a press conference before FFI at the Plenary Hall JCC, Senayan, Central Jakarta, on Saturday (12/5), Nia explained the comparison of film registrations now with previous years.
"The biggest challenge is the number of films that entered. Usually, it's 120, it can go up to 180, but this year there are around 200 (total number of films)" said Nia.
This year FFI only received registrations for 65 feature films, which posed a challenge for the selectors in judging. Several factors, such as a lack of diverse genres, also made it difficult for Nia in the judging process.
"This year, judging feature films is very challenging because there are only 65, and that's half. It's difficult, the genres are not varied. Many films that we were waiting for didn't end up being screened," she said.

In addition, Lukman Sardi, as the Chairman of the Indonesian Film Festival Committee for the past three years, also expressed the extraordinary performance of the committee team this time. For him, the pandemic is not a reason for the film industry to stop moving.
"We know that FFI this year entered an extraordinary period, we know it entered the pandemic period. But that doesn't mean we give up, we continue to strive. This is a form of appreciation for Indonesian filmmakers, so that Indonesian films continue to be present among the Indonesian society," explained Lukman Sardi.
Lukman certainly doesn't feel alone in planning and building this award event. He feels that the solidarity built with other committees is extraordinary, allowing FFI to be held again with strict health protocols.
"What interests me is the extraordinary solidarity I feel, we have mutual support, mutual assistance. This is the beginning of reviving Indonesian films in the new era," he concluded.
The implementation of health protocols is important during this pandemic. Engaging in activities outside the house requires everyone to discipline themselves and take preventive measures to avoid being exposed to Covid-19.
Starting from regularly washing hands, wearing masks, and avoiding crowds. Always #RememberMother'sMessage, KLovers. So that this pandemic can end soon.
