Joko Anwar Says the Production Costs of 'VIRGO AND THE SPARKLINGS' and 'SRI ASIH' Have Increased Due to the Pandemic

Kapanlagi.com - After successfully directing the film GUNDALA, now Joko Anwar is producing 2 other films from Jagat Sinema Bumilangit, VIRGO AND THE SPARKLINGS and SRI ASIH. The progress of the production of these 2 films is different, where one is almost finished, while the other one will just start.

"I am now a producer, for Virgo And The Sparklings and Sri Asih. I am producing both of them and they are still in progress, but one of them is almost done," said Joko Anwar when met in Senayan, Central Jakarta recently.

1. Higher Shooting Costs

Because Indonesia is currently still in a pandemic situation due to Covid-19, Joko Anwar, as a producer, certainly adheres to the recommended health protocols. Because of that, he admitted that the cost of producing a film has increased.

"We strictly adhere to health protocols. Shooting usually takes 16 hours, now it's only 11 or 12 hours, so automatically the shooting days increase, and the cost increases. So, it can be said that the cost increases by ten percent to implement these health protocols, because we have to take the test every 14 days, at least the antigen swab," he said.

2. Already Prepared a New Film for 2023

In addition, Joko said that a director needs at least 2 years to prepare a film that will be worked on. Joko Anwar plans to start directing a film in 2023.

"Making a film as a director requires 2 years of preparation. In 2019, there was Gundala, and maybe in 2023, I will be shooting again," he concluded.
