Kiesha Alvaro shares his experience facing significant challenges while shooting the horror film "Sihir Tanah Kubur". Besides the intense scenes, mastering the Javanese dialect was one of the hardest things he had to tackle.
"If the challenge for my character is truly from the dialect aspect. Also, there were several times I had to read verses from the Quran," said Kiesha Alvaro at a press conference at XXI Epicentrum, South Jakarta, Thursday (17/7/2026).
Kiesha explains that every time she reads a verse from the Quran in a scene, she always ensures to understand the meaning and the reason for choosing that verse first. This is important so that her experience while acting feels clearer and more precise."So, I often crosscheck again, ask more questions, and try to find out what it means, why it is being read like that, so that when I read it, the intention is clearer about why I have to read that verse, why not another verse, like that," said Kiesha.
In addition to the holy verses, Kiesha also has to recite a mantra in Javanese in one of the important scenes. She admitted that she was assisted by the assistant director to learn the dialect in a very short time."To answer this question, I have to give a shout out to AD 3, right? Or AD 2? AD 3 was my Mas Dani. So, he was the one who really helped me learn the Javanese dialect. And for the mantra scene, if I'm not mistaken, it was only about an hour or half an hour before the take, right, Pak Jero?" said Kiesha.
Kiesha admitted that she was quite shocked because the incantation she had to memorize turned out to be much longer than she expected. Even though the preparation time was tight, she still managed to perform the scene well."Yes, so before this, I knew there was an incantation to read, but I didn't expect it to be that long. And I was informed quite close to the take time. But thank God I was able to manage it," Kiesha said.
Director JeroPoint also explained the meaning of the incantation spoken by Kiesha in the scene. According to him, the incantation is about calling something back from the past."But for your old words. What, what, it’s like bringing back something old to come again, like that," said JeroPoint as the director of this film.
The film "Sihir Tanah Kubur" will be released simultaneously in theaters starting July 23, 2026. This film stars Kiesha Alvaro, Ariyo Wahab, Shareefa Daanish, Adzwa Aurell, and Rafi Sanjaya.
