The production house SinemArt officially announced that it will remake the legendary South Korean film titled MY WIFE IS A GANGSTER into an Indonesian version. The film, which was released in Korea in 2001, was directed by Jo Jin-kyu, one of the famous directors from the Ginseng Country. For the Indonesian version, the film will use the temporary title BINI GUE PREMAN.
MY WIFE IS A GANGSTER tells the story of Cha Eun-jin, a gangster known as Mantis. She tries to fulfill her sister's last wish to get married and have children, until she eventually meets a man named Kang Soo-il and forces him to marry her. However, their lives are disrupted when a rival gang comes to take over the territory and mess up Eun-jin's wedding.
In this remake version, several local actors and actresses will also star, including Faradina Mufti, Jerome Kurnia, Dimaz Andrean, Dimas Anggara, and many more. This project also marks a significant collaboration between Indonesia and Korea in the film industry.

Faradina Mufti touched on the differences in comedic style from the time the original film was made to the present. "Actually, the time gap from the first film is quite significant. And this is a comedy film. So what needs to be carefully considered, in my opinion, is the use of comedy itself," she stated when met in West Jakarta on Wednesday (12/11/2025).
Faradina added that the comedic elements in this film are one of the main concerns. She worries that the style of humor from the time the original film was made may no longer be relevant if applied today. Therefore, the film's script has been adapted to suit modern comedic tastes and contexts.
Not only about humor, Faradina also discussed the cultural differences between the two countries. "The customs and culture of Korea and Indonesia are certainly different... for example, the customs in marriage, there is a wedding scene, adjusted to how Indonesian weddings are," she explained.
Meanwhile, Jo Jin-kyu, the director of the original film who was also present, added, "The difference from the original film is when we revise the script from Korean to Indonesian." He explained that the process of translating the script became a challenge because, according to him, the Indonesian language has a longer form of expression.
Jo Jin-kyu hopes this film can convey a warm and entertaining message to its audience. He hopes his work can communicate the values of warmth among humans, family, as well as the excitement and humor that characterize the film. Meanwhile, Faradina also has high hopes that this cross-country collaboration project will be well received by Indonesian audiences.
