Luna Maya Stars in the Film 'GJLS: IBUKU IBU-IBU', Admits the Shooting Process Was Very Enjoyable

Kapanlagi.com - The GJLS podcast expands its wings to the big screen with their debut feature film titled GJLS: IBUKU IBU-IBU. This film marks a new breakthrough from the trio Hifdzi Khoir, Rigen Rakelna, and Ananta Rispo, who are known for their digital content.

This project is not just a proving ground for GJLS, but also brings in several big actors to join in. Luna Maya is one of those challenged to take part in this comedy film. She explained that the shooting process was always enjoyable.

"Yes, the challenges are quite enjoyable, because playing comedy is always fun. The challenge is not being serious, always laughing, not sticking to the script, always evolving everywhere. It's normal, they seem to rarely act in films, so the script is just a guideline," said Luna at Mall Kota Kasablanka, Friday (23/5/2025).

1. Something Extraordinary

Meanwhile, Bucek Deep considers this project as something extraordinary, especially because his comedic style is different from most films. He welcomes the challenge as a learning process.

"It's really extraordinary, but this is also a challenge for me from Monty, to meet again and make a film. When we first met, Monty said he wanted to make the dumbest film. This is smart comedy, I'm not a comedian and in this film, I'm not being funny, I'm just acting according to my capacity," said Bucek.

Bucek also highlighted his interactions with the main cast, which he found to be very explosive on set. He even referred to Rispo as a "problem" because his character is hard to predict.

2. Feels Very Different

"The scene with these three people is explosive. Me and Rispo, this person's problem is for the actors. He's scientific. I'm just a mediocre actor, it's a bit hard to keep up. I'm really happy to be invited to join, it adds to my knowledge about comedy films," he said.

Although he has previously acted in comedy films, Bucek mentioned that this project feels very different. According to him, this film brings a clever approach and does not rely on spontaneous humor.

"I've acted in comedy films before, but this is different, this is smart. I'm not asked to be funny, just follow the script, but the result is good. I hope the audience can be as dumb as I am," he said.

3. Representing the Spirit of GJLS

Director Monty Tiwa also explained the origin of the film's seemingly absurd title, which is My Mother is a Mother. This title, he said, represents the quirky yet honest spirit of GJLS.

“I forgot, if I’m not mistaken, I asked what would be a suitable title, we discussed various options. But this is the title that represents it. When you hear it, it’s not clear, it’s really strange, very GJLS. The measure is that it’s stupid,” said Monty.

4. Reflection of Chaos

According to Monty, the term “stupid” in this context is not just an insult, but more of a reflection of the chaos present in people's daily lives. He wants to bring that absurdity to the big screen.

“The diction of stupid, stupid what? No IQ, foolish or what. Why do we say ready stupid? It seems negative, but it’s not really. We live in a random country, I dare say this is a film that breaks many rules. That’s why the title is My Mother is a Mother,” concluded Monty.

The film GJLS: MY MOTHER IS A MOTHER marks the feature film debut of the GJLS trio of comedians, who were previously known through digital content and podcasts.
