'PEREMPUAN TANAH JAHANAM' Must Be Open-minded and Not Enter the Oscar Nomination

Kapanlagi.com - Some time ago we received news that an Indonesian horror film by Joko Anwar, became the first film to enter the Oscar nomination list. However, unfortunately, the film PEREMPUAN TANAH JAHANAM has not succeeded in reaching the Oscar stage this year. Just recently, the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences announced the films that made it into the nominations. From the list, it is unfortunate that the film PEREMPUAN TANAH JAHANAM did not enter the nominations. Similarly, the film has not entered the International Feature Film category.

Not only releasing the International Feature Film category, AMPAS also released several other categories. Among them are Documentary Feature, Documentary Short Subject, Makeup and Hairstyling, Original Score, Original Song, Animated Short Film, Live Action Short Film, and Visual Effect. In addition, the films that will be included in the list will be revoted before becoming the nomination list, which will be announced on March 5th to 9th, 2021. For the award night event itself, it has been scheduled to take place on April 25, 2021.

PEREMPUAN TANAH JAHANAM received a fairly good rating on the Rotten Tomatoes website, which is 94%. This film tells the story of a woman named Maya who is accompanied by her friend Dini to visit her hometown. Hoping to inherit what her parents left behind when they returned to their hometown, unaware that the danger of death is lurking for them. There is no doubt about the creepiness of this film, IMPETIGOR is a psychological horror genre film. The advantage of this film is that the audience is invited to experience the same fear as the characters in the film.

Although it has not been able to enter the Oscar nominations, this film was able to win many Citra awards. Among them are Best Feature Film, Best Director, Best Actress, Best Actor, Best Original Screenplay, Best Supporting Actor, Best Supporting Actress. Added to that are Best Cinematography Director, Best Art Director, Best Visual Effects Designer, Best Image Editor, Best Sound Designer, Best Music Designer, Best Theme Song Composer, Best Costume Designer, Best Makeup Artist. Therefore, it is not surprising that this film broke the record for the most nominations in the history of the Indonesian Film Festival.
