Famous filmmaker Joko Anwar is ready to release his latest work titled SIKSA KUBUR. The film, which is said to be a religious horror genre, will be shown in all cinemas in Indonesia during the upcoming Eid.
Joko said that this is the first time his film will be shown to enliven Eid.
The production house Come and See Pictures submitted it to Cinema XXI as the exhibitor and it was approved.
"It can really air during Eid because of its theme. At that time, we submitted it by saying that it is suitable for Eid and thankfully it was given (a date). No one can force it," said Joko during a press conference at Epicentrum XXI, Rasuna Said area, South Jakarta, on Wednesday (28/2/2024).
"Who are we? Come and See pictures is a newly established PH. We don't have the power to get slots that are considered pricey," he continued.
Joko Anwar revealed that SIKSA KUBUR will discuss when people in the world believe in religious rules.
Hoping that what is conveyed can be a reflection for the audience.
"Sometimes as humans, we are arrogant because we have positions, power, so we do unfair things. Why do people do such things? Because they don't believe (in religion)," he said.
"This film tries to provide a discourse, a reflection on what if the world believes in what is forbidden by religion," said Joko.
"With this film, after returning home (the audience) can have a discussion with friends and family on what if they believe in religion. Will we live in a safer world or not," he continued.
