Success in Reaching One Million Viewers During the Pandemic, 'MAKMUM 2' Receives Award from the Indonesian Record Museum

Kapanlagi.com - Film MAKMUM 2 has been released in cinemas throughout Indonesia since December 30, 2021. Fourteen days after its first screening, this horror genre presentation successfully collected a total of 1,057,149 viewers.

The number of viewers achieved by this film starring Titi Kamal is certainly not trivial. This is because out of dozens of titles circulating during the pandemic, MAKMUM 2 is the first release to reach millions.

It is not surprising that the Indonesian Record Museum or MURI awarded a certificate of appreciation. This is because Guntur Soeharjanto's horror film managed to set a record as the first national film to reach a total of one million viewers during the pandemic.

"Exactly on Thursday night, I received news that this film reached one million viewers. The MURI also informed me last night that they will give an award," said Dheeraj Kalwani, the producer, when interviewed by KapanLagi.com in the Palmerah area, West Jakarta, on Friday (14/2/2022).

1. Crowded Audience Graph During Weekdays

When first released, MAKMUM 2 had a total of 255 screens throughout Indonesia. Now, after two weeks of screening, that number has doubled to 562 screens. This is because of the overwhelming number of viewers.

"MAKMUM 2 has a consistent graph both in Jabodetabek and outside the city. I see that the weekday graph keeps rising, surpassing the weekend graph. Of course, the largest percentage of cinema audience comes from XXI with 75 percent, followed by CGV," added Dheeraj.

2. Trigger for Filmmakers and Producers

Guntur Soeharjanto, the director, admitted that he did not believe in the success of his film's audience. However, this proves that national film viewers are starting to return to cinemas and it will ignite the spirits of many people involved in the industry.

"The cinema audience status is not yet one hundred percent. In the past, it was clear because it was one hundred percent. Now it's still 50 to 75 percent, but reaching one million is quite special for me. I hope this becomes a trigger. If cinemas are crowded, we filmmakers will be motivated to make more films, and producers will be confident in financing, so that the situation returns to how it was before the pandemic," said Guntur on the same occasion.

3. Mourning a Deceased Relative

MAKMUM 2 highlights the story of Rini (played by Titi Kamal), who is now a widow with one child. One day, she and her son decide to return to their hometown to mourn a deceased relative.

Upon arriving at the place where she grew up, Rini finds herself being terrorized by a creepy figure called a makmum ghost. The situation becomes even more complicated when Rini's child goes missing and is later found unconscious. What actually happened? Find out the answer only in theaters.
