Throughout the early part of 2023, Indonesian cinemas are filled with several horror films. The latest is a film titled KAJIMAN: THE MOST WICKED DEMON PROMISE COLLECTOR which will be released on May 18, 2023. This film is directed by Adriyanto Dewo, a director who has also directed several well-known local films. One of his works titled MUDIK (2019) brought Adriyanto two awards and one nomination, namely the winner of the Best Original Screenplay category at FFI 2020, the winner of the Selected Best Original Screenplay category at Piala Maya 2020, and a nomination for Selected Director at Piala Maya 2020.

Based on Javanese mythology, the film KAJIMAN: THE MOST WICKED DEMON PROMISE COLLECTOR tells the story of a supernatural figure named Kajiman. This supernatural figure is known as the most powerful demon that is often used as a guardian for black magic rituals. In this film, the figure of Kajiman will haunt a young woman who works in a house that has many mysteries.

KAJIMAN: THE MOST TERRIFYING DEVIL, PROMISE COLLECTOR tells the story of a young woman named Asha who is sad and devastated because she has just lost her mother forever. Although Asha feels very sad, she is willing to fight to continue her life. To make a living, Asha works as a homecare nurse to take care of an elderly patient named Ismail who suffers from a mysterious illness.

As time goes by, Asha often experiences mystical terrors that disturb her. Curiosity arises in Asha's mind to investigate the mystery behind the terrors that haunt her. With the help of her friend named Rama, Asha begins to unravel the mystery. Unexpectedly, their investigation leads them to be trapped in the misguided ritual of Kajiman's followers.

Just from the title, we can guess that the name Kajiman is not just an ordinary name because it surely has a meaning behind it. It is known that Kajiman is the name of a demon that is known as the most feared demon in Javanese mythical culture. At a glance from the trailer, the term 'weton' also appears. In Javanese culture, weton is the calculation of a person's birth date that can be used as a basis for predicting all aspects of that person's life. 

The Javanese culture presented in this film is certainly one of the interesting elements because besides offering a horror spectacle, the film KAJIMAN: THE MOST FEARED DEMON PROMISE COLLECTOR also incorporates Javanese culture as an educational element.
