[REVIEW] 'COLOR OUT OF SPACE' - When Color Destroys a Family

Kapanlagi.com - The name Richard Stanley may sound unfamiliar as a filmmaker. After being fired from the long film project THE ISLAND OF DR MOREAU released in 1996, he chose to work on documentaries or short films only.

After 23 years, Stanley released his latest feature film titled COLOR OUT OF SPACE. This cosmic horror film is developed from a short story by HP Lovecraft titled The Colour Out of Space.

The film version highlights a small family led by Nathan Gardner (played by Nicolas Cage) who moves to a house in a village after his wife undergoes a breast removal surgery due to cancer. One night, a meteorite emitting a lilac color falls into the yard of the house.

Since then, the Gardner family experiences anomalous events one by one. From the youngest child frequently whistling as a means of communication with a 'friend' from inside the well, the passage of day and night not following the correct timing, to the appearance of blinding lilac-colored light that attacks the mother and child Gardner, transforming them into something terrifying. What is actually happening?

Cosmic horror is a subgenre of horror that is synonymous with the following tropes: humans facing terror beyond comprehension from something related to the cosmos. This subgenre was popularized by HP Lovecraft's ability to create stories that always leave humans helpless when dealing with alien entities.

That's exactly what 'COLOR OUT OF SPACE' accomplishes. It starts by introducing the Gardner family, making the audience care about the characters, until the terror, which is somehow inexplicable and how it should end, truly begins.

Of course, you have to watch this film to find out for yourself what happens to Nathan, his wife, and their children in that house. Just don't forget to prepare yourself to be left with a million questions about what has happened. 'COLOR OUT OF SPACE' can be legally streamed on the Klik Film platform starting from February.
