Review Serial HUMANS Season 1: The Synth Hunt that Leads to the Biggest Science Mystery

Kapanlagi.com - Joe Hawkins, the head of a household, takes his daughter named Sophie for 'shopping'. Not buying necessities, it turns out Joe buys a beautiful and advanced serving robot (Synth) named Anitta to help with household chores because his wife, Laura, is busy with personal matters. However, Laura starts to suspect that there is something different about Anitta.

On the other hand, Leo, along with a Synth named Max, is trying to find other Synth friends who, based on flashback scenes, have been kidnapped by a group of unknown people. Interestingly, Max is different from usual Synths as he has consciousness, feelings, empathy, and other human traits.

Meanwhile, in a different place and time, a scientist named Dr. George Millican is trying his best to protect his Synth named Odi from Social Services. However, Odi is considered damaged and needs to be replaced soon to avoid losses. Throughout the series, it is revealed that both of them are involved in a memory that should not be known by many people.

Twisty Plot Complexity

From the three angles above, HUMANS will lead the audience to a twisty and complex story. Characters are gradually introduced with the right amount of screen time, not excessive, and most importantly, they complement each other. In this case, Sam Vincent and Jonathan Brackley are very skillful in playing with the emotions and knowledge of the audience. HUMANS itself is an adaptation of the original Swedish series titled REAL HUMANS.

HUMANS is so indulging and makes you curious since the first episode, where each character is played by a talented young actor or actress. Among them are Manpreet Bachu, Emily Berrington, Ruth Bradley, Lucy Carless, Gemma Chan, Pixie Davies, Jack Derges, Sope Dirisu, Rebecca Front, and many more. Let's not forget William Hurt who steals the attention because he previously achieved success by winning an Oscar for Best Actor in a Leading Role in the film KISS OF THE SPIDER WOMAN (1986). Additionally, there is also Collin Morgan who is well-known for his exceptional acting skills when playing the role of Merlin in the series MERLIN which aired from 2008 to 2012.

Packaged in a Moderate Pace and Tense Atmosphere

The first season of HUMANS is presented in 8 episodes that are packaged with a moderate pace and a sufficiently tense atmosphere. The audience will be indulged with soft visual presentations and be prepared to be surprised by shocking plot twists at the end of each episode. Don't be surprised if in some of the first episodes, some characters suddenly appear and take on roles in the plot. Like a puzzle, the audience will slowly be led to gather small plots which will later form a big plot of the whole story.

Entertaining and Ready to Make You Curious

Overall, this first season of HUMANS is an entertaining watch and worth it to be enjoyed while dealing with various daily activities. Although it is likened to a puzzle, the presented plot is not too heavy to digest, although it still contains twists that make you curious at the end of each episode. The first season will also lead you to big questions in the last episode that will make the audience even more curious.
