Sequel 'DUNE' Already in the Works, Let's Follow Its Development Here

Kapanlagi.com - Who hasn't watched the movie DUNE starring Timothée Chalamet and Zendaya? This adaptation of the novel by Frank Herbert has exceeded expectations and achieved both commercial and critical success.

There's good news for those who love this film, because DUNE 2 or DUNE: PART TWO will return to the screen to continue the previous story. The making of this sequel was confirmed by Legendary Entertainment shortly after the strong box office performance of DUNE: PART ONE. "This is just the beginning...," they tweeted in October. "We are excited to continue the journey!" they added.

Like many other films in the COVID era, DUNE, originally scheduled for 2020, had to be postponed until 2021. So it's quite unfortunate because it also affected the production of DUNE 2.

1. What the Director Says

Although there is still no official release date for DUNE 2, the director revealed in The Hollywood Reporter's Awards Chatter podcast that he has made progress on this project. "Right now, I am in what you call 'soft preparation', meaning we are finishing the script. We will soon start storyboarding. [Dune] Part 2 is currently being designed by Patrice Vermette (production designer)," said Denis Villeneuve, the director of DUNE.

"It's a beautiful part where he just dreams, looks at the ceiling, and thinks about the film, I love it. I mean, it's like a moment where anything can happen, before we get the surprise of the upcoming reality," he added.

Quoted from Digitalspy, at the special screening of DUNE in November 2021, producer Mary Parent revealed that the sequel will begin filming on July 18, 2022. Previously, the first DUNE film was shot between March and July 2019.

2. Dune 2

The first film covers more than half of Herbert's book Herbert, ending halfway through when Paul and Lady Jessica are accepted by the Fremen and on their way to Stilgar's home. With House Atreides almost destroyed, DUNE 2 will continue to tell the story of Paul's fight against the Empire.

Although details of DUNE 2 have not been revealed yet, one thing is certain, some actors will return, such as Timothée Chalamet who plays Paul Atreides, Zendaya as Chani who had limited screen time in the first Dune. Additionally, Rebecca Ferguson as Lady Jessica and Javier Bardem as Stilgar will also reprise their roles.
