Synopsis of 'THE CREATOR', When the War Between Humans and AI Happens in the Future

Gareth himself has directed many science fiction films such as GODZILLA and ROGUE ONE: A STAR WARS STORY. In the production process of THE CREATOR, Gareth was also assisted by Chris Weith who co-wrote the screenplay.

Unlike other science fiction films, THE CREATOR will be set in a post-apocalyptic world where humans and AI coexist. The film tells the story of a war between humans and AI. A former special forces agent is recruited to find and kill "the creator". It is known that he has created a mysterious weapon that can end the war by destroying humanity.

Not only that, in the making process, Edwards said that he was inspired by the 90s era in designing his AI robot. Some of the robot forms in the film are also depicted with insect-like heads.

In the future, humans begin to create and coexist with AI. However, this ends quite horrifically as it leads to a war between humans and AI.

Joshua, a former special forces agent who is grieving the death of his wife, is recruited to find and kill The Creator, a highly advanced AI architect. It is believed that he has created a weapon that can end the war and humanity.

Joshua and his elite team embark on their journey, crossing enemy lines. They head to the dark heart of the territory occupied only by AI to find and destroy the weapon. Unexpectedly, the weapon intended to be destroyed is an AI in the form of a child.

In addition to having a unique and intriguing storyline, THE CREATOR apparently had another working title, which is TRUE LOVE, but Edwards felt that title was not suitable. Not only that, Edwards also drew inspiration from one of the films, APOCALYPSE NOW (1979). The filming process for this movie took place from January to May 2022 in Thailand.

Not less interesting than its synopsis, this film will be starred by John David Washington as the main character, Joshua, Gemma Chan as Maya, Ken Watanabe as Harun, Sturgill Simpson as Drew, Allison Janney as Howell, and others.

Edwards also got Alphie's cast, a little AI child through direct casting. Because of the pandemic, auditions were done through video recordings. From hundreds of video recordings, Edwards met Madeleine Yuna Voyles. In that direct casting, Edwards challenged Madeleine to perform a scene and she did something more touching.
