"One day in November 2021, he lost control and patience. He threw me onto the bed and tore my clothes, choking and threatening to kill me, in front of our child who was watching. He also hit me, causing injuries around my nose. He also hit the bottom of my feet, making me unable to walk for a while. Then he received a phone call from his mother. After answering the phone, he said to his mother, 'She's acting crazy now and she's also being violent towards me. She needs to be taken to a mental hospital.' So I immediately screamed, 'He's the one hitting me now. Please help me.' But my mother-in-law hung up the phone. He became even more brutal after that phone call, and started hitting me again. I couldn't think of anything else but my child. I tried my best to calm him down and succeeded in convincing him in the living room. In fact, every time we argued, he would take my phone and lock me in the room, whether it was to talk to me or to hit me until his anger subsided. So when he briefly left the living room, whether to talk to his mother or someone else on the phone, I took my child and ran to the door. I didn't even care about my torn clothes."

Meanwhile, a few days earlier, Areum announced on her social media that she became a victim of an extortion scheme. An unknown perpetrator used her identity to ask for money from her close contacts, including family and friends.

Areum explained that although she was being treated at the hospital, she did not have any financial difficulties, so there was no need to borrow money. She informed this because she was worried that the extortion would mislead her acquaintances into believing that she was experiencing financial difficulties.
