Fashion Show 'Hanbok Wave' Becomes a Moment to Celebrate 50 Years of Diplomatic Relations between Indonesia and Korea

Kapanlagi.com - In order to celebrate 50 years of diplomatic relations between Indonesia and Korea, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the organizer of the South Korean Crafts and Design Foundation (YKDK) held a fashion show called 'Hanbok Wave' in Jakarta on Friday (8/9).

With the theme 'Ancient Future', the 'Hanbok Wave' Fashion Show, held at the K-Brand Foreign Promotion Center (KOREA 360) in Lotte Avenue, presents 600 years of Hanbok transformation history, from the late Koryo Dynasty to the Chosun Dynasty and the modern and current era.

1. Display Traditional Hanbok

This fashion show, which attracted attention and received a warm welcome from visitors, began with the display of Hanbok costumes from the end of the Koryo Dynasty to the Chosun Dynasty and the modern era in chronological order. This fashion show introduces the changes in women's clothing from the Koryo Dynasty and the transformation of Jogori (shirt) from the Chosun Dynasty to the modern era, as well as wedding attire and clothing worn outside the home from the end of the Joseon Dynasty. The 10 traditional Hanbok collections that colored the stage also invited admiration from the audience.

Next, modern Hanbok with modern sensibilities is presented, which is a reinterpretation based on tradition.

2. Promoting Korean Wave Culture

The 'Hanbok Wave' fashion show organized by YKDK presents 12 collections of Hanbok costumes, which were designed and developed by Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) in Korea. Nine Hanbok companies participated, including Giroe, Live Damyeon, Lisle, Morinori, Chai Kim, Hapli, Hanbok Studio Hyeon, Hyemi by Saimdang, and Hyeyu.

"We are very happy to hold the Hanbok Fashion Show in Jakarta, the center of the Korean Wave, in commemoration of the 50th anniversary of Indonesia-Korea diplomatic relations. We will continue to lead in introducing Hanbok as a symbol of the Korean Wave to the world for the expansion of Korean Wave cultural promotion," said President YKDK, JANG Dong-kwang.

3. Held in Various Countries

YKDK added that JANG Dong-kwang plans to introduce a new Hanbok design for the first time in Times Square, New York, USA in December 2023.

"The 'Hanbok Wave' fashion show has also been successfully held in London and Milan, receiving positive responses in Jakarta. All eyes will be on the destination where the Hanbok fashion show will be held next year," JANG Dong concluded.
