SUHO EXO's Inspiration for Each Song Written in the 'GREY SUIT' Album: Dreaming of Holding a Concert, Watching the Olympics, and Learning the Process of Making Wine

The first song is 'Morning Star', which is a modern rock genre with lyrics about the feeling of waking up from a dream and reuniting with someone who has been waiting for us all along. This song is perfect for starting the day and has a deep intro.

"'Morning Star' has a 35-second intro without my vocals, but it doesn't sound weird, and I intentionally made it that way when working with the composer. When I was in the military, I dreamed of holding a concert, and when I woke up, it felt empty. It felt like the world I was in was a dream and the reality was different. I wanted to change that dream and write these lyrics with the idea of wanting to wake up from reality, from the dream, so that I could meet fans as soon as possible. This is also the first song I recorded, because I wanted to make it the first one as if starting anew. You will be able to feel the spirit and butterflies when you listen to it," explained Suho EXO in a press conference for the album 'GREY SUIT' on Monday (4/4).

1. About the Song Hurdle

Moving on to the song Hurdle which also has an accompanying MV. This is the third song in the album with a pop-rock genre and describes the desire to pass time by running towards a lover. At the beginning of the song, the sound and bustle of the city can be heard. There are also some aspects that can make listeners feel like they are seeing something even with their eyes closed.

"Hurdle is an obstacle and time is like an obstacle to me. That's why I wrote this song with the idea of wanting to pass time. I watched the Summer and Winter Olympics during mandatory military service. While watching, I saw the hurdle sport (one of the parts of athletics), and felt that it could be dangerous. Some athletes fell, and I might have been more focused on this sport because the participants not only ran, but also had obstacles in their way. Sometimes mistakes are made, and there is also nervousness. I remember writing Hurdle in my notes, and for me, Hurdle is like time. That's why I started writing this song."

2. About the Song Decanting

Decanting is an alternative Britpop song with a sensual melody and enjoyable guitar solo. SUHO then explained the process of writing this song, which was inspired by his new hobby of drinking wine.

"I have a new hobby, drinking wine, for the past two years. I don't drink anything else besides wine, so I bring my own wine to gatherings or when meeting with EXO members. While studying wine, I learned that decanting is a process that makes wine taste better and richer. I feel like this is the same as the relationship I have with fans, because our relationship has become deeper and more meaningful over the past two years, and that's what I wanted to write about. There are lyrics 'I can't deny' and the pronunciation is the same as 'Decanting', so I added it to the lyrics because it's interesting to play with words. This is also one of the sexiest songs on the album, I thought of Kai's sexy mood when singing it," Suho revealed.

3. About the Song Bear Hug

Bear Hug is a song with a modern rock genre. Its lyrics are about the desire to comfort someone who feels lonely by giving them a warm hug. The original title of Bear Hug is written in Chinese characters which mean 'warm', fitting for a warm embrace.

"I thought of keeping the English title as Bear Hug because it also means giving a tight hug. The idea for this song came from seeing students, workers, and people in general who want to go home after finishing what they have to do (outside their home). But sometimes on other days, they don't want to go home and choose to do something even though there's nothing special to do. It's like they're walking aimlessly and I wrote this song with the thought of giving them a hug. I wrote the lyrics as if singing for a child. So I talked to the composer and we added sound elements like a fairy tale or children's song, like the xylophone at the beginning of the song," explained SUHO.

4. About the Song Moment

Moment is a rock ballad with lyrical melody and guitar sounds similar to the ticking of a clock. The original title of this song in Korean is 'eighty-five seconds' which is taken from the Buddhist religious rule that means the smallest moment in time.

"This is a song that I wrote for the fans and to express what I feel at the end of the concert after all the encore songs are finished. All moments will surely pass, right? But I want to tell the fans that if we want to remember this moment, we have to keep it in our hearts forever. This is a warm song that contains a message that I want to convey to the fans and tell them to continue to love each other," said SUHO.

5. About the Main Song 'Grey Suit'

Grey Suit has a progressive rock genre combined with the sound of a band and strings. The lyrics are about going through a boring gray period, metaphorically depicting the emotions after encountering light and other colors. There is a part in the chorus where the choir rises one by one towards the climax of the song.

"I worked with the composer to make the melody rise to show SUHO taking off his gray suit and getting color from head to toe. I participated in planning the concept of this album and explaining what I wanted to express to the team. So this is a song that contains everything I want to say. That's why it's one of my favorite songs and one that makes me very happy and proud," he concluded.
