The Struggle of Gitlicious, the Writer of 'My Lecturer My Husband', Once Criticized for Writing Idol K-Pop Fanfic

Usually, K-Pop fans like to write stories with main characters inspired by their idols. This is also experienced by Gitlicious alias Mbak Git, the writer of the novel My Lecturer My Husband, which will soon be filmed with stars Reza Rahadian and Prilly Latuconsina.

For those who don't know, My Lecturer My Husband was originally a fanfic on Wattpad with the main character inspired by Lay EXO. Who would have thought, before becoming a writer whose fanfic has been read more than 6 million times, Mbak Git was just casually writing.

"I've liked writing since high school, around 2012. But I never uploaded it on any media, I just casually wrote on my own laptop. Before knowing Wattpad, I also wrote on the fanfiction.net website to upload stories, but after moving to Wattpad, I deactivated my account there," recalled Mbak Git.

1. Inspiration

Writing is not easy, especially creating a novel. Sometimes a writer needs inspiration for the storyline. Especially when experiencing writer's block that makes it impossible to write, they definitely need something to continue. Mbak Git also shared a story about how she gets inspiration and overcomes writer's block.

"(Inspiration) Stories from people around, dramas watched, or viral news can also be a source of inspiration, sometimes suddenly getting ideas. Usually by reading comments from readers or rereading the written story to make the desire to continue writing the story re-emerge. Quite often, comments are received to update quickly," she said.

2. Unexpected

For those who don't know, Mbak Git is not just a writer. She is also a career woman who works in an insurance company. Therefore, she now writes on weekends or during work holidays. Her hard work in writing fanfiction has definitely received positive and negative responses. On the positive side, the story she created was turned into a novel like a movie.

"I didn't expect this opportunity, not everyone gets it, and I am grateful for that," said Mbak Git.

3. Receiving Criticism

Mbak Git has received many positive things related to the fanfic she wrote. But she doesn't deny that she has also received criticism. But luckily, that criticism actually gives her motivation.

"Of course, I have been criticized for using K-Pop idol characters in my work. But thanks to those critics, I have been able to take steps this far," she said.
