Astrid Releases Album 'Me and the Light' Through Independent Route

The uniquely voiced singer Astrid Sartiasari is making waves in the Indonesian music industry again. The 44-year-old woman has officially launched her seventh full album titled Me and the Light. This work proves her existence after two decades in the singing world.

The launch of this album feels very special for the wife of Arlan Djoewarsa. This is because the album was born after Astrid decided to pursue an independent route for the last five years. She is no longer under the large label that once made her name.

"For more than 20 years of working in this music industry, this is my 7th work. I have quite a few albums, but this is the first time I decided, from the beginning of discussions with Mas Epoy and Adrian, that I wanted to present me, 'the real me'," Astrid said when met in the Kemang area, South Jakarta, Wednesday (15/4/2026).

Astrid admitted that her journey as an independent artist has not been easy. She had to adapt to the changes of the times, which are now all digital. The singer of the song Terpukau experienced a phase of searching for her identity that was quite exhausting in order to be accepted by the new generation of listeners.

"So, in the last few years, I have been struggling, actually. I mean in terms of applying my songs, I've been trying really hard to find out how this song can be liked by Gen-Z, by this generation," she said.

That anxiety was finally answered through a more honest creative process. Astrid chose not to force herself to follow market trends anymore. She believes that honesty in creating will find its own audience organically.

"Until finally at one point, I made a mini album last year, I was already... enough, not thinking about it anymore. I try to be honest with myself, how I want to create, as a songwriter, without thinking about whether it should be brought to Gen-Z or anyone else," said Astrid.

The album 'Aku Dan Cahaya' encompasses 10 songs that represent her life journey. It contains new songs as well as some old songs that have been re-recorded. For her, this album is a form of gratitude for all the achievements she has made.

The process of distributing this physical album is also quite unique as it collaborates with Jagonya Musik & Sport Indonesia. Fans can now obtain the album at all KFC outlets in Indonesia in CDigital format.

Through this work, Astrid wants to convey a message about the happiness of finding oneself. She hopes that every melody in her latest album can be a companion for anyone who listens to it.
