The song 'Gemilang' was created by Dwiki Dharmawan in 1985 and released two years later. Dwiki feels that the latest version of this song, sung by Andien and RAN, sounds fresher than the original version.

1. Accidental Collaboration

This collaboration between Dwiki Dharmawan and Sandhy Sondoro happened accidentally. The idea came up when Dwiki met Sandhy and they jammed together.

"Something accidental happened while we were having fun, missing each other with Sandi. We met, jammed, and Sandi said, 'This is cool.' The song Gemilang is already 38 years old, then re-released by Andien and RAN," said Dwiki Dharmawan when met in Kemang, South Jakarta, on Wednesday (12/6/2024).

2. Spontaneity Recording

Without thinking twice, Dwiki Dharmawan invited Sandhy Sondoro to sing the song Gemilang again. The recording process was done spontaneously. Dwiki and Sandhy wanted to maintain the authenticity and natural atmosphere of the song.

They chose live recording to capture the authentic energy and emotions when performing the song Gemilang. The result is a fresh and soulful version, highlighting Sandhy's vocal strength and minimalist music arrangement led by Dwiki.

"We just wanted to perform it live. The concept was to produce the result as it is, creating a natural sound. Alhamdulillah, the result is what we wanted," said Sandhy Sondoro.

3. Dreams Come True

Sandhy Sondoro feels happy to be able to sing and release a new version of the song Gemilang. Sandhy said that this is one of his dreams that has been achieved.

"The song is very memorable, I really like it when it is performed by Krakatau and sung by Mbak Tri Utami. For me, it's extraordinary, making dreams come true by creating a single," he said.

"I also want young people to know who Dwiki Dharmawan is, who is very important in the Indonesian music industry. That's why we collaborate and walk together," he added.

4. Presenting a Different Version

Dwiki Dharmawan said that the version of the song Gemilang that he sings with Shandy Sondoro is very different. In fact, it is also different from the one sung by Andien and RAN.

"Sandhy brings a very soulful, minimalist simplicity but the soul is in Sandhy's vocals. He can interpret the song extraordinarily well," said Dwiki Dharmawan.

5. Give Inspiration to the Community

Not wanting to stop at just the song Gemilang, Dwiki Dharmawan and Sandhy Sondoro also plan to present a new work from this collaboration.

"Of course, not just one single. I have conveyed giving inspiration to the community that they can create music with minimalistic instruments," said Dwiki Dharmawan.
