Delia Septianti Comeback, ÉCOUTEZ Releases Single 'Kembali'

Kapanlagi.com - After announcing the return of Delia Septianti to complete the missing pieces of Écoutez (read: Ekute) in March 2023, now this Jakarta-based pop band continues their momentum of happiness. They are now moving to a more serious stage by releasing a new single titled Kembali (Back).

The title choice of Kembali (Back) seems to emphasize the return of the original vocalist of Écoutez to their 'home' after being separated for 12 years. In the artwork design of the song, a woman - who was also on the cover of Écoutez's first album - returns from her journey and is welcomed by three men. Representing the three remaining members of Écoutez, namely Fajar 'Jay' Fikri (drums), Leo Christian (bass), and Widyo 'Iyas' Prastowo (keyboard).

After more than 10 years of not being involved in the creative process of Écoutez in recording songs, singing Kembali presents a unique challenge for Delia. Moreover, there are some arrangement changes that require her to adapt.

"I was trained at the beginning, when mas Denny changed it, it changed from Écoutez's usual style, but it turned out that when I took the vocal take, it immediately worked," said Delia happily.

However, during the preparation process for the take, Delia felt a difference because this time she received vocal direction from Denny Chasmala. But on the other hand, Delia also feels the need for new ideas or new ways of singing, without losing her own vocal character.

1. The Power of Lyrics

According to Jay, the drummer who wrote the song, the lyrics of this song represent the meaning of temporary separation, represented by the story of two people who already have their respective partners, then cheat, but ultimately decide to return to their respective partners.

“According to me as a producer, this song is somewhat related to the current situation where there are many issues of infidelity. And when Delia came back, she was the most suitable to sing a slightly slow-tempo song. In my opinion, this song is strong and easy listening,” said Levi Santoso, who is also known as a member of the band The Fly.

2. Collaboration with Denny Chamsmala

Actually, the initial concept of the song Kembali was already being developed by Jay when Delia had not yet rejoined Écoutez. However, during the process, he and the other Écoutez members were not satisfied with the arrangement. So, it was decided to revise it several times. And when Delia joined, the song had to be modified again to suit Delia's vocal character.

It didn't stop there. Feeling the need to add additional instrumentation, Écoutez asked for the help of musician, guitarist, and producer Denny Chasmala to contribute his guitar playing in the song Kembali. But instead of just filling in the guitar, both parties agreed to collaborate further to perfect the arrangement of the song. For Écoutez, Denny Chasmala's offer was a breath of fresh air, because until now they had always worked on their songs or albums without involving external parties.

"Let's refresh, so far the four Écoutez albums have always been done alone. Mas Denny's (Chasmala) musical style helps bring us back to the old version of Écoutez, which is acoustic. When Delia came back, it's like reminding people about Écoutez's music again. Denny Chasmala is unique. He's the right person," said Leo.

3. Shooting Music Video in Thailand

The video footage was specifically taken in Bangkok, Thailand. Why? Because according to them, Écoutez wants to remember that they once made a video clip there while promoting their second album, which is also the last moments before Delia resigned from Écoutez.

"We have memories there. So when we wanted to make the 'Kembali' clip, we also took a walk. Coincidentally, there are many places to explore there (Bangkok), while also nostalgic," said Delia enthusiastically.

"After 12 years apart (in Bangkok), we reconnect in Bangkok," added Iyas, completing Delia's sentence.
