First Appearance at Java Jazz Festival, Efek Rumah Kaca Admits Feeling Nervous

Kapanlagi.com - The band Efek Rumah Kaca (ERK) performed for the first time at the Java Jazz Festival. The band, led by Cholil (guitar, vocals), Akbar (drums), and Poppie (bass), performed on the first day of the BNI Java Jazz 2020 held at JIExpo, Kemayoran, Central Jakarta, on Friday (28/2) night.

After their performance at the MLD Spot Stage Bus, Cholil admitted feeling nervous. This is because ERK's genre is not jazz. However, with their experience in the Indonesian music industry, they were able to overcome it well.

"Yes, we were nervous, wondering if we were jazz enough," said Cholil.

"We dare to play jazz in our own version," added Akbar.

1. Pride in Performing at Java Jazz

Performing at a prestigious jazz event like Java Jazz is a source of pride for ERK. ERK members themselves have attended Java Jazz Festival several times before, but only as spectators.

"In the early days, we used to watch a lot. But we never got invited. We also once performed at the same organizer, Java Rockin'land, Hodgepodge. Finally, now we are invited to perform," said Cholil.

2. Received a Warm Welcome

During their first performance, ERK received a warm welcome from the audience. Cholil couldn't hide his excitement when seeing the enthusiasm of the audience. Especially when several other musicians were also performing at the same time.

"I'm happy, even though there was a lot of competition for attention from other stages. But I'm really happy that it was quite crowded," said Cholil.

During their one-hour performance, ERK performed several of their popular songs. Di Udara, Putih, Melankonia, Palung Mariana, Desember, were performed excellently. Their performance was concluded with the song Cinta Melulu.
