Hindia Refused to Perform at the Tasikmalaya Music Space Festival, Here is the Police Explanation

The plan for Hindia to perform at the Music Space Festival scheduled for July 19-20, 2025, at Lanud Wiriadinata, Tasikmalaya City has been officially canceled. This cancellation follows a rejection from the Alliance of Activists and Muslim Community of Tasikmalaya (Al-Mumtaz) who questioned the band's connection to symbols of satanism.

The Chief of Tasikmalaya City Police, AKBP Moh Faruk Rozi, stated that this polemic has gone through a discussion process with various parties. He said that the results of these meetings will be submitted to the West Java Police for further consideration.

"The result is that first, all the results from these 4 meetings will be conveyed to the West Java Police," said AKBP Faruk to reporters.

AKBP Faruk emphasized that the main authority for granting permits does not lie with the Police Resort, but rather with the West Java Regional Police. In this case, the Police Resort only plays a role in providing recommendations based on input from community leaders and stakeholders."And the recommendations that we will issue are the recommendations of descriptions or results from the meetings we have held four times," he explained.

Although it has become a polemic, AKBP Faruk emphasized that the city of Tasikmalaya has never prohibited concert activities in general. He explained that religious leaders and scholars also provided support, as long as the implementation does not contradict the values that prevail in society.

"So there has been no discussion that states that concerts are not allowed. In fact, concerts are supported by scholars and by artistic community organizations, but with attention to regulatory issues and local wisdom that has existed in the city of Tasikmalaya, because Tasikmalaya is a city of santri, a city that is religious and devout," he revealed.

Faruk also explained that the issue of whether or not Hindia would be present at the concert is not a decision made by the police department. He emphasized that the permits are the full authority of the West Java Regional Police."Once again, it is the Regional Police that can grant permission; we are only limited to recommending. The recommendation will be included in the minutes of this fourth meeting," he said.

Furthermore, he stated that preventive measures have been taken to ensure the situation remains conducive. According to him, this is done to avoid potential friction within the community."If someone asks whether it is allowed or not, that is up to the Regional Police to decide. We only issue recommendations, and it is mandatory for us to take preventive measures. This is done to avoid any unwanted incidents, whether it happens or not," he added.

Meanwhile, the Chairman of Al-Mumtaz, Ustaz Hilmi, emphasized that their rejection is not against music concerts in general. He stated that the main issue is the allegation that the band Hindia carries symbols and understandings that deviate from Islamic law.

"After all, several events in Tasik are held easily, even tonight Wali Band will perform in Tasik. It's just that regarding this band, there are indications of a satanic band, a band that indeed brushes against norms that violate sharia, with understandings, symbols of the Dajjal, bokmet, that's the only issue," said Hilmi.

Ustaz Hilmi also stated that they will not conduct a large-scale action if the concert continues. He emphasized that Al-Mumtaz is only conveying aspirations to the authorities."So even if it is not permitted, Alhamdulillah, and if it is permitted, we certainly will disassociate ourselves as part of the citizens of Tasikmalaya. It doesn't mean that if it is permitted we will hold a massive demonstration, no. We are just providing aspirations, input to the government, the police. After all, this is how this band is," he asserted.
