The song Abang Tukang Bakso is one of the children's music works that still lingers in the minds of many people even today. Although it was released more than three decades ago, this song is once again presented in a new version by the original singer, Melisa.
Melisa reinterprets the legendary song with a fresh musical arrangement. For this version, she collaborates with the children's singing group BesThree, consisting of Qeyrra Santino, Jo Altan, and Shannet Moe. Here are the details.
“It’s been 30 years since I performed this song. I never thought I would sing it again now with a voice that is obviously different from when I was 8 years old,” said Melisa to reporters.
The first collaboration between Melisa and BesThree was introduced during the Malam Muda Mudi concert in 2025 at Anjungan Sarinah. Although presented in a new version, the lyrics of the song 'Abang Tukang Bakso' remain unchanged.
What makes this version more special is the addition of a rap section performed by Jo. According to Jo, the rap element is a hallmark in BesThree's songs that has been retained this time. “Previously, I never imagined there would be rap in the song 'Abang Tukang Bakso', but since BesThree's songs always have rap, we decided to include it in this song as well,” said Jo.
This song also marks the first recycle project for BesThree in collaboration with Gajah Mada Record, after previously releasing three original songs. As a young singer, Shannet expressed her excitement to share the stage with Melisa. “I didn’t expect to sing with the original singer; BesThree is so proud!” said Shannet.
Meanwhile, Qeyrra highlights the uniqueness of this new version of the song that presents many music genres in one arrangement. She feels that this song is different yet still enjoyable for children. “Abang Tukang Bakso version BesThree is special because in one song there are many music genres, it’s really cool,” said Qeyrra.
The music video production process is also quite interesting with the combination of outdoor and studio settings. Nostalgic elements are maintained by referring to the old music videos, but modified to fit current trends.
“Taking a little inspiration from the first Abang Tukang Bakso music video but altered to follow modern times, when children ride bicycles, we modified it using a waveboard and scooter,” explained Melisa.
The latest version of the song Abang Tukang Bakso was officially released on May 19, 2025, across all digital platforms. Meanwhile, the music video will premiere on the Gajah Mada Record YouTube channel on May 23, 2025, at 5:00 PM WIB.
