Kapanlagi.com - Today, Monday (9/3), coincides with the celebration of National Music Day. The Performers Rights Society of Indonesia (PRISINDO) announced the annual distribution of royalties to musicians who are registered members and have recorded works.
In total, there are more than 300 musicians registered with PRISINDO, which is a Collective Management Organization (CMO). Some of these musicians are names that we are already very familiar with, such as Raisa, Kotak, Iwan Fals, Payung Teduh, Didi Kempot, Geisha, Via Vallen, The Changcuters, Maudy Ayunda, Ungu, and many others.
It should be noted that the royalties distributed do not come from the sales of musicians' or singers' songs, whether digitally or physically, but rather from performing rights or the right to publicly perform the works.
"When a recorded work is played for commercial purposes such as in hotels, karaoke, and restaurants, the users must pay performing rights royalties to the three rights owners, namely the songwriters, musicians, and singers who recorded the works, as well as the producer," explained Marcell, a singer and the Chairman of PRISINDO, in a press release received by KapanLagi.com on Sunday (8/3).
From the royalties distributed by PRISINDO this year, five singers are recorded as the highest royalty recipients, namely Via Vallen, Anji, Judika, Iwan Fals, and Cita Citata. It is also noted that five bands are the biggest royalty recipients this year, namely Armada, NOAH, Ungu, Seventeen, and Naff.
"By knowing that the rights of performers are recognized and protected, hopefully, it will further encourage the spirit of musicians and singers to continue recording their works," said Makki Parikesit, the leader of the band Ungu who also serves as the Secretary of PRISINDO.
This royalty distribution moment is also used to reintroduce the new PRISINDO management for the 2019-2024 period, which was elected through the General Meeting of PRISINDO Members held in July 2019. PRISINDO is the first CMO in Indonesia to successfully regenerate its management through the General Meeting of Members.
PRISINDO was initiated by figures such as Kris Biantoro (late), Koes Hendratmo, Tamam Hussein, and several other Indonesian music figures. And currently, the names recorded as management for the 2019-2024 period include Marcell (Chairman), Sari Koeswoyo (Chairman I), Indra Perdana Sinaga ADA Band (Chairman II), Chandra 'Konde' Christanto (Vice Chairman I), Makki Parikesit Ungu (Secretary), Indra Prasta The Rain (Vice Secretary), and Irwan Indrakesuma Chaseiro (Treasurer).
